Sweet Magnolias fans have been plenty patient. The third season of the Netflix drama dropped in July of 2023. Yes, it has been a year and a half since checking in with fierce friends Helen, Maddie, and Dana Sue. However, the soapy drama’s showrunner is warning fans that they will need to “be patient” when bingeing the new season four episodes.
Patience Is A Virtue
The first thing to be prepared for is a time jump. It’s logical that there be one, considering we haven’t seen these characters in 18 months. Sheryl Anderson, the showrunner and executive producer for Sweet Magnolias, recently talked to Glamour about the new episodes. She hinted that the time jump choice “gives us a lot of runway.”
With this passage of time, expect to have to adjust to each character’s status. Anderson hopes the audience will understand “that while their favorite characters might not be in the place they’d hoped when the season opens, be patient and let this season unfold.” But it’s all appropriate for a season where Anderson says the theme is “seize your passion.”
Sounds like fans should be prepared for changes. According to Glamour, these changes include “new career opportunities, returning family members, and life-altering circumstances.”

And drama, so much drama. “There are huge twists and turns and surprises, both good and bad, within every episode,” Anderson teased.
More patience might be needed when watching the characters we know and love deal with the obstacles and the bad side of the various scenarios they face in season four. “While our characters must grapple with really difficult situations, they always come together in love to support each other.”
We’ve come to expect support and love from Sweet Magnolias, especially from Helen (Heather Headley), Maddie (JoAnna Garcia Swisher), and Dana Sue (Brooke Elliott), the three friends at the heart of the show.
The fourth season of Sweet Magnolias is currently streaming on Netflix.
