The eighth and final season of Game of Thrones (GOT) is ending this year, which means fans of the very popular HBO series are going to need something to fill the void once it’s all said and done. The good news is there’s a prequel in the works! Here’s what we know so far!

This new series, which also will air on HBO, will be set in author George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire universe. This show will also take place thousands of years prior to what we’ve seen go down on Game of Thrones.

“Taking place thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series chronicles the world’s descent from the Golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour.

“And only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the White Walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend… it’s not the story we think we know,” the network revealed after announcing the series.

We also know who will be starring in this new series, and let’s just say the cast is stacked. Naomi Watts is set to star, alongside Jonathan Whitehouse, Naomi Ackie, Jamie Campbell Bower, Denise Gough, Sheila Atim, Ivanno Jeremiah, Georgie Henley, Alex Sharp, and Toby Regbo.

Watts revealed in November how excited she is to join the Game of Thrones universe during an interview with Entertainment Tonight. She said, “I am late coming to it, I have to say. But that’s how I am with lots of things in life. I am binging it right now and studying. It’s very exciting.”

It’s still unclear what the new series will be called, but fans will have a little while to wait before it premieres. In fact, it probably won’t come out until after 2020, so we’ll have at least a year once Game of Thrones wraps up this summer.
