Days of our Lives has pulled off another well-executed introduction to a long-lost character with the arrival of Doug Williams III.
The Formula
It’s a common theme on DAYS for seemingly forgotten young men to one day resurface in Salem, and more often than not, bring some trouble with them. Many may remember when JJ (Casey Moss) came home in 2013 and instantly went from Abigail’s sweet and innocent little brother to a no-good scoundrel doing drugs and hooking up with Theresa. Another example of the bad boy arrival was when Chad first showed up in Salem in 2009 in search of his then-girlfriend, Mia (ex-Taylor Spreitler), who he arguably stalked until learning the two shared a daughter.
And no one can forget when a teenaged Lucas (Bryan Dattilo, who returned to DAYS last week) first came to Salem and immediately began scheming with Sami (Alison Sweeney) to break up his brother and her sister. But the one thing Lucas, Chad, and JJ all have in common is that they’re now loved throughout Salem and have moved on from their troublesome pasts.
Welcome To The Family
Doug III (Peyton Meyer) fits this mold to a T, starting with his backstory. Sure, this character came as a surprise, but his father, Dougie (John H. Russon), was the center of a big storyline for Doug (the late Bill Hayes) in the 70s. Doug III has now arrived to keep both his father’s and grandfather’s names alive.

Doug III has quickly made waves in Salem, not simply for revealing his identity, but for evidently stealing Alice’s diamond necklace from the time capsule. Already pegged as Salem’s new bad boy to viewers, it won’t be long until this easily likeable character is caught, sees the error of his ways, and is redeemed and hanging an ornament on the Horton tree by next Christmas.
