They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but we wonder what good is a picture when you can’t recognize the subject? Above is a snapshot of a future star of soaps but can you guess who this silly poser grew up to be?
Star Of The Soaps
Obviously this young woman (now all grown up) is either currently starring in, or is an alum of, one of the four remaining daytime dramas – The Bold and the Beautiful, Days of our Lives, General Hospital, and The Young and the Restless – but that’s probably not much of a hint.
So try these on for size. She is a Daytime Emmy Award-nominated actress who jump-started her career with a small appearance in a family-friendly “talking animal” film. She had recurring roles on two primetime serials, and her first daytime role was on ABC’s One Life to Live.
But just who can she be? Is this a photograph of Danube Hermosillo (ex-Darlita, BB), Camila Banus (Gabi Hernandez, DAYS), Vanessa Marcil (ex-Brenda Barrett, GH), or Sasha Calle (Lola Rosales, YR)?
She got her start thanks to Made-for-TV dramedy Above the Line and BB – where she played Spectra Fashions top-notch receptionist – and it served as her first exposure to daytime soaps. So no, Hermosillo isn’t today’s featured star.
She had recurring roles on High Incident and Lipstick Jungle. And she garnered three Daytime Emmy Award nominations for her work as GH’s Brenda. But the ABC soap proved to be Marcil’s only dalliance with the genre. Plus it was her first on-camera role. So she isn’t today’s mystery child.
Calle began her career with roles in a number of short films like 18 Minutes, The White Shoes, and Deep Cuts. And though she read for both DAYS and GH casting directors, her first sudsy experience came courtesy of YR. Her work netted her the 2020 Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Younger Performer, but like the two women before her, Calle is not the answer to today’s identity query.
Banus had been a mere 6 years old when she was signed with a talent manager. She began appearing in commercials and print ads and in 2005 she appeared in Lenny the Wonder Dog – a family-friendly film about a dog given the power of speech, thanks to an implanted microchip.
In 2008 (while she was still in high school), Banus submitted an audition tape to the producers at OLTL. And her gambit paid off. She was hired to play the role of Lola Montez and she gained a Young Artist Award nomination for her efforts.
In 2010, she joined the cast of DAYS, replacing Gabriela Rodriguez in the role of Gabi. Five years later, she was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award in the Outstanding Younger Actress category.
So if you guessed that perhaps the future star of soaps seen in the image above was Camila Banus – who has played DAYS’ manipulative Gabi Hernandez on-and-off since October 4, 2010 – then you were absolutely correct!
