The Horton house caught fire, but luckily everyone escaped injury. Chad (Billy Flynn) got a call from someone disguising their voice mechanically telling him it was his fault. Tripp worked frantically to save a Harris (Steve Burton), whom Ava (Tamara Braun) found bleeding on the loading dock at The Bistro. Rafe (Galen Gering) questioned Ava and Stefan (Brandon Barash) about Harris. Jada (Elia Cantu) investigated the shooting at the Pub and learned Lucas (Bryan Dattilo) has been staying there. Kate (Lauren Koslow) shot at the shooter and saved Lucas’s life. Paulina (Jackée Harry) lamented messing up Chanel’s (Raven Bowens) wedding day, and Chanel comforted her as best she could. Paulina received a one-way collect call from Lani, who was apparently not let out at Christmas as we were told she would be many months ago.

Maggie took in Julie, Doug, Chad, and the kids. Chad turned his phone over to Rafe and spilled the Clyde connection to the fire. Wendy tattled to Rafe and Jada about Ava’s suspicious behavior and later she made a connection to the burn phone they found. Xander returned from his run, took a shower, and Sarah joined him. Later, Wendy’s tip led to Xander being pulled from their bed and arrested. Ava and Stefan waited for word on Harris. After surgery, Ava went to him and confessed her love.

It’s Valentine’s Day in Salem and romance was everywhere (get more details here). Johnny and Chanel surprised Paulina by bringing their wedding to her hospital room. The couple finally remarried and then Paulina was whisked away to surgery. Kayla and Steve reminisced about their romantic life and a couple of their weddings were shown in flashbacks. Theresa was convinced Alex would propose but instead they crashed John and Marlena’s romantic picnic in the park (complete with two space heaters). They recalled when he paid $100K to dance with her and then, when they were alone again, he asked her to dance once again.

During a visit with Rachel (Finley Rose Slater), Brady (Eric Martsolf) and Kristen (Stacy Haiduk) fight, causing Rachel to scream at them and Kristen to toss Brady out. Chad told Everett what happened the night of the fire and he and Stephanie told him how worried they were. Stephanie invited Jada and Rafe to dinner to meet her boyfriend. Also, Jada asked Ava and Stefan about what happened to Harris and Ava was rocked to learn it was a supposed text from her that lured Harris to his fate. Xander assumed Sarah was done with him but she pledged her support and got Justin (Wally Kurth) to be his lawyer. Soon Jada lowered the boom that the gun they found in the apartment matched the one used to shoot Harris.

Impatient, Theresa told Alex to propose already but he had no plans to do so — so she walked out on their dinner at The Bistro in a huff. Sloan, Eric, and Jude’s family time was interrupted by Leo, and later when Sloan wanted special time with Eric, she found him asleep with the baby. She also wasn’t thrilled her gift was a necklace that said “Jude.” Nicole (Arianne Zucker) was overwhelmed at the lengths EJ went through for Holly (Ashley Puzemis) as well as his gift to her of a healing sound bowl. Wendy and Tripp participated in a Valentine’s day themed event and she got earrings she’d been wanting. Officer Goldman claimed to be protecting them and asked them to follow her. Stephanie checked in with Everett about their double date with Rafe and Jada and then he showed up. When Jade returned from the ladies room, she recognized him as her ex Bobby.
