On the May 28 episode of Days of our Lives, Leo — and viewers — met Javi’s new boyfriend, Gus. And we got to say, we love him already. Here are three reasons why he’s a great addition to Salem.
Key Takeaways
- Gus is pleasant to look at
- Gus puts Javi’s needs before his own
- Gus makes Leo sad
Pretty Boy
Let’s be honest, Michael Ocampo, who is playing Javi’s (Al Calderon) new squeeze, Gus, is very, very attractive. This isn’t rare on a soap, but it is nice. And Salem can always use more diversity. Ocampo is of Nicaraguan descent. He and Javi make an attractive couple, and the two actors already seem to have chemistry together.
Good Guy
But Gus isn’t just cute; he also seems to be a nice guy. When Javi mentioned moving to Salem, Gus was game. And he managed to agree without making the conversation about himself, quoting multiple old movies and TV shows to keep from using his own words and thus admitting his own feelings, or horribly mispronouncing Yiddish words he doesn’t know how to use correctly. These are all good things. Oh, and Gus is also a fireman. A hero. Not a busybody playing at being a journalist.
Sad Face Emoji
When Leo (Greg Rikaart) saw Javi and Gus in Horton Square, he looked sad. And this makes us happy. No matter how many times Leo whines to Marlena about his insecurities, we can’t forget all the horrible things he’s done. These include blackmail, kidnapping, bribery, theft, and manipulation, such as when he tried to marry Craig (Kevin Spirtas) for his money. A nice guy like Javi — also a firefighter, also a hero — deserves better. And we’re so excited to see that he’s found it… with Gus.
