Gabi (Cherie Jimenez) gave Liam (Hank Northrop) a check with “many zeroes” (we presume at the end of the number, not at the start) in order for him to take Gage and leave town. So Liam did. And he ghosted Ari (Vico Escorcia) in the process. When Ari ran into him following Holly’s (Ashley Puzemis) medical crisis, she realized that he still cared about her. And the truth finally came out about Gabi’s role in his departure.

Gabi denied it at first, but then confessed, defending herself as doing what she did because she wanted to keep her precious, teen daughter away from an ex-con with a five-year-old kid and a dead, druggie baby mama (She is not 100% wrong). Ari didn’t want to hear it and told her mother to get lost. Ari couldn’t deal with her right now.
Mother Tongue
But the best part of this sequence of scenes was the way Gabi and Ari went in and out of yelling at each other in Spanish. Sure, viewers like to understand what’s going on. But it felt particularly authentic that when emotions ran high, Gabi and Ari would search for just the right words, and that some of those words would be in Spanish. We didn’t have to know exactly what was going on… to know exactly what was going on. Or how everyone was feeling about it.
