The 1980s were considered the Golden Age of soap operas, and Days Of Our Lives (DOOL) led the pack when it came to supercouples.
General Hospital’s (GH) Luke and Laura may have kicked off the decade with their record-breaking wedding, but DAYS showed how you could keep the trend going, churning popular faves out one after the other.
But which one was your favorite? Here’s how over 10,000 long-term viewers responded:
Never Lose Hope!
They set the Salem standard, and Bo (Peter Reckell) and Hope (Kristian Alfonso) are still the clear leaders for 65% of you. The couple was able to survive death, and even a temporary recast, when Robert Kelker-Kelley assumed the role of Bo.
Now their daughter, Ciara (Victoria Konefal), and granddaughter Claire (Olivia Rose Keegan) are on the canvas to keep the legacy going!
Oh, Kay(la)!
Bo’s best-friend, Steve (Stephan Nichols) met Bo’s sister, Kayla (Mary Beth Evans), and it was love at first sight (ha!)… almost. The couple that 16% of the audience voted as their #1 also spent some time apart due to death, but at least they’re still together today!
Take Two
The first time they fell in love, Marlena (Deidre Hall) thought he was her presumed dead husband, Roman. Turned out, nope, he’s John (Drake Hogysten). And 12% of viewers prefer him to the original.

Then again, for 4%, Roman, whether he is played by Wayne Northrup or Josh Taylor always was and always will be the right man for Marlena. Even if Sami (Allison Sweeney) was the result of their union.
Spies Like Us
The lowest number of votes, 2%, went to Shane (Charles Shaugnessey) and Kim (Patricia Pease). Maybe it was because this couple seemed to suffer more than they actually enjoyed being together.
But, they did get a theme song that charted! (Friends and Loves by Carl Anderson and Gloria Loring, once a DAYS star, best known these days as Robin Thicke’s mom!)
