There’s literally some “great news” for a trio of Days of Our Lives (DOOL) actresses.
The NBC sitcom is executive produced by Tina Fey. The series stars Briga Heelan as Katie Wendelson, a savvy news producer whose life is thrown into turmoil when her mom, Carol, played by Andrea Martin (SCTV), joins her at work as a newsroom intern.
Two episodes air tonight starting at 9 p.m.; the DAYS actresses appear in “War Is Hell,” which airs at 9:30 p.m. Watch for Carol to uncovers a covert relationship her daughter is in by using a storyline she saw on DAYS.
“I think the creator of the show, Tracey Wigfield, based a lot of her stories on her relationship with her own mom, who is a big soap opera fan,” Madison tells Soap Hub. “So she wrote this show where she could incorporate some of her mom’s favorite DAYS characters.”
Wigfield chose her guest actors wisely as Koslow’s Kate is a very protective mama and Hall’s and Madison’s Marlena and Belle are one of soaps’ more realistic mother/daughter duos.
“I don’t want to give too much else away,” teases Madison. “You’ll have to tune in to watch. It’s really funny!”
Don’t be surprised if you feel you’ve walked into an actual newsroom when you see the episode. Madison adds that the set is very realistic. “It looks like a real newsroom with break rooms and everything.”
Madison says that she enjoyed exercising her comedy muscles, a departure from the “take no prisoners/my client’s innocent and I’m going to prove it” approach she brings to Belle.
“I love comedy,” she says. “It’s not that different from daytime. You have to think on your feet and I know a lot of people who’ve been on daytime and they’re great at comedy and improvisation.
“The show’s hilarious,” adds Madison. “If you’ve been missing 30 Rock, this is a great replacement.”
