Kassie DePaiva has been a daytime staple since her five-year stint on Guiding Light as Chelsea Reardon. But, just how much do you know about this Morganfield, Kentucky native? Below are five fast facts about fan-favorite actress Kassie DePaiva
A Once In a Life Time Opportunity
DePaiva was studying theater at the University of California when she was offered the opportunity to join the United Service Organization (USO) on a tour of Asia with stops in Japan, Korea, and Okinawa. She took the job without hesitation and has been performing for an audience every since.
A Scaredy, But Grateful, Cat
Some actors have no problem denigrating their early work, especially if it’s in a niche genre like comedy horror, but not DePaiva. Not only is she extremely proud of the work she did in on the film Evil Dead 2 bu in a 2013 Ask Me Anything (AMA) Reddit, the actress said she would, “jump at the chance,” to work with writer/director Sam Raimi again
DePaiva has also made herself available for special events celebrating the film including taking part in 2018’s “Horror Hound Weekend.”
Don’t You Look Mighty Different
DePaiva found herself in a bit of pickle when she joined first joined ABC’s One Life To Live. The Caucasian actress (who fought hard to mask her thick Southern accent) learned that she was a recast for the character of Blair Daimler who had previously been played by Eurasian actress Mia Korf. DePaiva managed to make the character of Blair her own.
In the late 1990s, DePaiva found herself dissatisfied with her status at One Life to Live as she felt Blair was being underutilized by the writers. Looking for other venues to express her creativity, DePaiva wound up recording and releasing her first music album which she titled Naked.
A True Support System
Acting is like one big “family.” That’s a phrase you hear a lot of people in show business say. But DePaiva can certainly attest to its sincerity.
She has revealed that following a diagnosis of “acute myeloid leukemia” in 2016 she and her husband were inundated with visits from their co-stars from One Life to Live, including Nathan Fillion (who has a big fan in DePaiva son JQ), Bob Woods, Hillary B. Smith, and DePaiva’s very dear friend (and TV aunt) Robin Strasser. Days of Our Lives airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
