Last year, beloved Days of Our Lives (DOOL) star Drake Hogestyn experienced an on-set accident that lead to a brain injury and sidelined him from the set for months.
The actor returned to work last fall, but only started airing a few short weeks ago due to DAYS’ six-month taping lead time. During his time off work, he had a lot to reflect on and couldn’t be happier to be where he is right now.
“I’ve been fortunate to be here off and on for half of my life and I think I’m appreciating it more,” Hogestyn said in the May 29 issue of Soap Opera Digest.
“I’m trying to listen more to the people here at the show and be involved in their conversation more and let people know how I feel about them as often as I can. I enjoy being back here and enjoy plying my trade as long as they will let me.”
He admitted that he was a bit worried about learning such an abundance of lines after a head injury, but that co-stars like Deidre Hall were there for him to help him along and he’s finally getting his groove back.

His experience also made him reflect on his luck in life and how Hollywood has allowed him to live two lives at once.
“We live a dual life here, you know what I mean?” he told Digest.
“We not only have our real life, but we come here and have another life and it’s really unusual. I wish everyone could experience this. It’s really rich and really full and I’m very blessed. It’s a great way to go through life.”
