On Days of Our Lives (DOOL), the character of Hope went from a pig-tailed tween to a teenager overnight. Said teenager was Tammy Taylor for about a year, before turning into Kristian Alfonso, who has played the role, on and off, since 1983.
The same thing happened to Hope’s daughter, Ciara (Lauren Boles). One day a little girl (albeit one with a bit of a grownup attitude), the next, a teen.
Except that Vivian Jovanni, who took Ciara through her assault by Chase and her awkward crush on Theo (Kyler Pettis), is off the show now.
And little Lauren Boles is growing up and booking roles on prime-time soaps like Grey’s Anatomy.
Which, of course, begs the question: When Ciara inevitably returns to Salem, should she be played by her former portrayer? Here’s how almost 4,000 viewers voted.
Bring ‘Er!
Ciara’s sudden growth spurt didn’t sit well with a lot of fans. Sure, kids do grow up too fast but not that fast! One of the best things about soaps is watching kids grow up in real time.

Think General Hospital’s Kimberly McCullough (Robin) and Jonathan Jackson (Lucky). Or think of DAYS’ own Christie Clark, who played Carrie as a preteen, teen, and young adult, only to be replaced by a slightly older actress in 1991.
Poor Tracy Middendorf barely lasted a year before overwhelming fan demand brought Clark back, and 76% of you would like to see the same scenario play out with Boles.
Keep Away
It was hard enough for fans, watching Ciara’s rape storyline when she was played by a mature actress. The idea of a girl younger than 15 taking over the character is more than 23% of the audience can stomach.
Plus, Theo will look so much older, there will no chance of a realistic relationship — he’ll look like he’s dating a child! You miss Boles, but the part has evolved beyond her.
