On Days of Our Lives, everything seems to be coming up roses for Julie Williams. She and husband Doug just toasted to 26 years of married life and her grandson Eli just announced his engagement. And now her portrayer, Susan Seaforth Hayes, has her own reason to celebrate.
That’s because she was born on July 11, 1943, in Oakland, California, which means that she is turning 76 years old today! Hayes’s mother, Elizabeth Harrower (an actress and writer), changed her daughter’s last name from Seabold to Seaforth in honor of the Scottish Highland regiment the Seaforth Highlanders.
Hayes made her stage debut at the age of four playing Trouble in an adaption of Madame Butterfly and went on to star in many other popular stage productions including Mother Was A Bachelor, Oklahoma! and Same Time Next Year.
Hayes also appeared in some of the most popular television programs of the 1950s and 60s including Death Valley Days, 77 Sunset Strip, Cheyenne, and Surfside 6. She also appeared on two daytime soap operas. First on General Hospital as Dorothy Bradley and then on the General Hospital sister series The Young Marrieds as Carol West.
But, of course, the role of Julie Olsen Williams made Hayes a household name. She joined that series in 1968 becoming the fourth actress to attempt the role. Hayes was an immediate hit and went on to win three Best Actress awards in the Daytime TV’s Annual Reader’s Poll and two Soapy Awards for Actress of the Year and Favorite Heroine.
