Mary Beth Evans is a beloved daytime icon, best known for her role as Dr. Kayla Brady Johnson on Days of Our Lives. The actress has much to feel good about these days, and now she’s celebrating something very special!
This week was Evans’ birthday as she was born on March 7, 1961.
While Evans is synonymous with DAYS, the NBC sudser was not her first serial. She began her soap career on the syndicated soap Rituals, where she played Dakota, in 1985. Next, she joined DAYS as Kayla, earning super couple stardom alongside Stephen Nichols (Steve “Patch” Johnson).
The couple’s 1988 marriage catapulted DAYS to the top spot in the ratings; Kayla became a popular name for mothers to name their newborn daughters. If you’ve ever met a “Kayla” in real life, it’s possible her mom was a DAYS fan!
In the ’90s, Evans left DAYS and joined the cast of General Hospital where she played calculating Katherine Bell. In Port Charles, she was paired with Kin Shriner (Scotty) and, later, Nichols, who joined the show as Stefan Cassadine.
Next came a stint on As the World Turns as Sierra Montgomery, the daughter of Elizabeth Hubbard’s Lucinda. Fans rejoiced, however, when the actress not only returned to DAYS but also when she was reunited with Nichols, who rejoined the show, too!
Evans is a Pasadena native and has been married to Dr. Michael Schwartz since November 3, 1985. The couple has three children: Danny, Katie, and Matthew.
The actress has an entrepreneurial side; she’s created Mary Beth’s Apple Pie Company and launched her own lifestyle blog, Plank.
She’s a Daytime Emmy winner not only for playing Kayla but also for executive producing and starring as Sara Garrett in the award-winning web series The Bay.
Soap Hub joins Evans’ family, friends, and fans in wishing her a happy birthday and many happy returns!
