While rumors have been out there for a while that Camila Banus was leaving her role as Gabi on Days of our Lives, there have been mixed messages and no actual confirmation. Now, according to one published report, the actress is indeed leaving Salem. But is there yet another twist to the tale?
Camila Bannus — Mulling Return?
According to Daytime Confidential, multiple sources have confirmed that Banus has left the soap. “When Corday Productions first released the entire cast from their contracts during negotiations with Sony and NBC, a lot of the younger actors like Camila Banus were excited to leave to pursue primetime,” says one DC source.
But due to the coronavirus pandemic and the broad shutdown of pilot season and primetime in general, the site muses that she and other young stars may end up reversing their decisions to leave the NBC soap and that is an excellent point.
The production landscape has changed drastically in Hollywood since early this year and what seemed like a plethora of opportunities in both primetime, cable, and outlets like Netflix and Hulu has since dried up like the Sahara. Soaps have been the first productions to return, providing one of the few ways for actors to make a living these days.
Sure, some shows are returning — especially those that are shot in New York, Canada, or anywhere else outside of California but it’s still not a lot production-wise. And considering the Days of Our Lives return of Brandon Barash as Jake had caught Gabi’s attention (as has a new nemesis in Emily O’Brien’s Gwen), it would seem like there’s plenty to keep Gabi busy in Salem — should she return.
