Today, Tuesday, Oct. 5, marks the first episode of Days of our Lives that includes new footage that was shot after the show resumed production following the coronavirus forced shutdown.
New Days of Our Lives
According to Jason47’s Facebook website, the show that aired on Monday, Oct. 5 was the last that was taped in entirety before things stopped in March.
“The following two weeks of episodes (10/6-10/19) were partially completed in March and partially completed in September, so fans will see the first socially-distant DAYS scenes air on Tuesday’s episode,” his site said.
That means that not everything will be new. For instance, fans will still see Melissa Reeves appearing as Jennifer Horton, even though Cady McClain took over the role when production started again in September. The scenes with Reeves were shot last spring and will be interspersed with new scenes from other actors.
Additionally, according to Jason47, a new story was written to be included in the next few weeks of episodes to make up for the episodes Days of Our Lives thought it would be losing to the Olympics. But with the Olympics postponed due to the pandemic, this new storyline will help keep the show on track for when holiday episodes like Halloween air.
There’s been a lot of news of comings and goings over the last few months, but DAYS keeps such an unusual schedule that it might be a while before some of those who have already announced their exits will be gone, while others may have already seen their last moments in Salem.
DAYS production staff and editing staff are seasoned at keeping these stories going even while filming out of order, and taping about an episode and a half a day.
Still, don’t be surprised to see McClain on the canvas soon because there’s only so much Reeves was able to complete this spring. Eventually, everything will be new material, and that will probably begin airing around November. Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
