Why Days of Our Lives Just CAN’T Be Cancelled

With rumors swirling that Days of Our Lives won’t make it past this year, but an NBC executive remaining “optimistic” that Sony Pictures Television will renew its contract with the show this winter, there really is one main reason why the show just can’t be canceled:

Fans would go insane, and they proved it in Soap Hub’s poll.

Out of more than 18,000 votes, 92% of you would be absolutely devastated if your favorite soap left the airwaves after 51 years.

You only have one soap left on NBC and couldn’t imagine being soapless–or down to only three soaps on the air when there seemed to be an endless supply to choose from at one point.

Another 7% would take it a step further and said you would riot. While we do not in any way advocate violence, there’s nothing wrong with a little peaceful protest.

In fact, in 1982 when fans thought the Salem Strangler had killed Marlena, fans picketed outside the DAYS studios in California to bring the character back. Of course, Marlena wasn’t really dead–it was her twin sister, Samantha, instead.

A very small 2% of you could actually handle a DAYS cancellation. You’ve seen soaps come and go for decades and figure it’s only a matter of time before another one leaves you.

Besides, you feel there are still three soaps left on other networks so you’ll get your fill of daytime drama with General Hospital, The Young and the Restless, or The Bold and the Beautiful. But we all know you’d rather just have your days filled with DAYS.
