The Days of Our Lives (DOOL) recap for Thursday, August 31 features Nicole and Brady on edge as they waited to hear what the judge had to say about Holly’s custody.
Playing Hardball
Brady (Eric Martsolf) was shocked when Nicole admitted that she did violate the court order to see Holly. What’s worse — he learned Eric (Greg Vaughan) was there too. Eric also gave a heartfelt plea to the judge and his love for Nicole was obvious.
Brady wasn’t about to let anyone else play the hero for Nicole (Arianne Zucker). He stepped up his game and met privately with the judge, saying he knew about Deimos paying him off — a felony — and that if Nicole doesn’t get Holly back, he would destroy his life. Surprise! Nicole got Holly back!
Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) started out trying to be there for Valerie (Vanessa Williams) but soon it was all about her pain regarding Joey (James Lastovic) serving time. Valerie realized that things seem strained with Steve too.
Kayla admitted that she feels Steve chose his own son over theirs, which seems contrived to keep them apart a bit longer. After all, Kayla is usually more rational. Later, Kayla saw Steve having a drink with Tripp and walked out without him seeing her.

Steve (Stephen Nichols) tried to help Tripp (Lucas Adam) realize that nothing was his fault and he loves him unconditionally. Tripp’s worried that his actions may have ruined his father’s marriage. We’re pretty sure only DAYS writers can do that. And they need to stop.
Taking Grandma’s Advice
Claire (Olivia Rose Keegan) comforted Theo (Kyler Pettis), who was hurting about Abe (James Reynolds). But when talk turned to making Tripp be their new roommate, Theo appeared jealous. Claire was thrilled and left a message for Marlena that her advice seemed to be working.
Ah, Romance
Lani (Sal Stowers) was tired of pretending at work and looking for a break. JJ (Casey Moss) was more than happy to distract her and the two indulged in a little romance.
