Nicole Walker tearfully poured out her heart to Anna on Days of our Lives about how much she suffered during her past two miscarriages, how much she hopes this pregnancy will make it to term, and how excited she is about the possibility of another child. So why then, is this high-risk mama-to-be risking none of her dreams coming true?
Nicole Walker: Days of our Lives Problems
As Nicole (Arianne Zucker) said to Anna (Leann Hunley), it’s not that her problem is getting pregnant. It’s that her problem is staying pregnant. One of the reasons she is stalling telling either EJ (Dan Feuerriegel) or Eric (Greg Vaughan) about her condition is that she isn’t confident there will even be a child, so why create problems and drama for something that might never happen? Better wait and see. And obfuscate.
DAYS: Medical Miracle
Anna assured Nicole that medical science has come a long way since her last miscarriage. For Pete’s sake, Dr. Rolf has cured death — what’s a baby or two? (Have we all forgotten when he stole Theresa’s embryo and implanted it in Kristen? The man is clearly an obstetrics whiz on top of being a necromancer!) But, here in the real world, a prenatal paternity test still carries a minor risk, even for the healthiest of pregnancies. For a woman with Nicole’s condition, finding out who fathered her child might also jeopardize it.
Days of our Lives: Pick Your Priorities
Nicole may be saying one thing, but the way she’s acting makes it sound like she cares more about being able to tell EJ — or Eric — that they’re going to be a dad (and binding them to her forever) than she is about actually delivering a healthy child. Why not wait until after he or she is born? A paternity test, then, is no risk to anyone. Moms need to make good choices. Nicole doesn’t seem to be there yet.
