There are plenty of soap tropes that have been used throughout time but one of the most enduring is the mom sacrificing her freedom by confessing to a crime committed by her child. Days of our Lives is throwing in a twist by having it be Tate’s dad, Brady Black, who is doing the confessing this time.

Brady Black Goes For Redemption

Just as it’s a tragedy that Nicole (Arianne Zucker) may “lose” a second child if Holly (Ashley Puzemis) doesn’t pull through after her overdose, to Brady’s (Eric Martsolf) mind, he can’t bear to “lose” a second child either in Tate (Jamie Martin Mann). Kristen (Stacy Haiduk) has been keeping his daughter from him. Brady can’t bear to lose his son too and with EJ’s (Dan Feuerriegel) threat to keep Tate in jail until he is a very old man, that’s the reality Brady feared he was facing.

So, Brady stepped forward to take the blame in this tragic situation. Much as the women before him, like Lesley Webber on General Hospital who confessed to killing a man for daughter Laura (Genie Francis), or Kim Hughes (Kathryn Hays) who did it for stepdaughter Frannie (Julianne Moore) when she thought she’d killed Doug (John Wesley Shipp) on As the World Turns, Brady confessed to a crime he didn’t commit. He wanted to save his child from suffering, even if his confession didn’t make much sense.

Brady knows that he hasn’t really been there for Tate. He’s allowed Theresa (Emily O’Brien) to do most of the heavy parental lifting for much of his son’s life. Tate said as much when rebelling against his father’s attempt to parent him after getting kicked out of boarding school. So what better way to redeem himself than to show his love this way? While it seemed silly, and Rafe (Galen Gering) saw it for the desperate ploy it was, it was still good soap and for that, we applaud Brady’s effort.
