Looks like Days of our Lives is going back to the John Black Is the Pawn well yet again. This time around, Konstantin seems to have recognized John from his days as a brainwashed mercenary. And John, too, is curious. He suspects Steve Johnson knows more than he’s saying. Is there yet another secret to extract from John’s very, very tortured past?
That’s What Friends Are For
On the one hand, Steve (Stephan Nichols) and John (Drake Hogysten) aren’t just business partners, they’re buds. They depend on each other, and they trust each other. Steve would never keep a secret that might come back to bite John from his pal. (Refresh yourself about John’s Pawn past here.) Steve knows what it’s like to be kidnapped and brainwashed and kept from your loved ones and used. It happens a lot more than you’d think would be statistically possible in Salem.
Steve Johnson: Carve Out an Exception
Except Steve cares a lot about John. We can imagine him keeping a secret from John…if he thought it was for John’s own good. Steve sure did look guilty at the Pub while John was questioning him, didn’t he? He might be holding something back. And if he is, it’s got to be pretty bad, for Steve to betray John’s trust like this.

Set the Stage
If Steve does know something…something important to John…he will eventually tell him. But he has to make sure the time is right. This secret could send John into a tailspin. Heck, it might even turn him back into the Pawn! Steve has to make sure John is ready to hear what he has to say, and that he will deal with it accordingly. Steve has John’s best interests at heart. The big question is: Will John also see it that way? Or will he resent being kept in the dark?
