Playing a sly, smooth operator with secrets to spare can be tricky. As an actor you can’t come across as a mustache-twirling ne’er-do-well — because who’d be interested in that — but you’ve also got to make sure that you’re always telegraphing a certain subtext when your character is schmoozing, bamboozling, and charming a lady into smooching. Luckily DAYS’ Remington Hoffman, the most recent recipient of Soap Hub’s Performer of the Week honors, is adept at running the gamut from scheming supervillain to romantic lead.

Remington Hoffman – Performer of the Week

When Hoffman’s alter-ego first interacted with Richard Wharton’s Dr. Wilhelm Rolf, he was all business; cool, calm, and collected. But the more squirely and standoffish Rolf got — worried as he were over Orpheus’s (George DelHoyo) poisoning his rival’s fair ladies — the more distressed, disgruntled, and downright pissed off Li Shin became.

Suddenly, Hoffman took hold of his co-star, spun him around, and got right in his face, eyeball-to-eyeball. Li wanted to pinpoint Rolf’s mood and pinpoint he did — Rolf was scared.

Luckily it had nothing to do with Stefan O. DiMera’s (Brandon Barash), AKA Rolf’s latest lab experiment, AKA an impediment to Li’s ultimate goal: winning the heart of Gabi Hernandez DiMera (Camila Banus), Stefan’s unassuming “widow.”

For the briefest of moments, following a most stinging telling off from Rolf — “You’re like a whiney schoolboy in the backseat endlessly asking, ‘Are we there yet?’ It doesn’t speed anything up and it really irritates the driver.” — Hoffman presented as cowed. But he rediscovered Li’s bite.

“I still don’t know how [Stefan] managed to overpower you,” he snipped at the mad scientist on his payroll.

Later, opposite Banus, Remington Hoffman was the picture-perfect partner; every woman’s dream. Is it any wonder that when Li when got down on one knee and popped the question she happily accepted?
