A Critic’s Review Of Days of our Lives: Speed Plots And Holes

The author’s opinions on DAYS are his and his alone. They’re suitably scathing, fairly humorous, and normally bang on target.

When it comes to Days of our Lives, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review and a cheeky critique of the Days of our Lives week that was.

Days of our Lives: The Critic’s POV

I’m all for storylines not overstaying their welcome, but there is such a thing as progressing the plot too quickly. No sooner had Nicole (Arianne Zucker) been discharged from the hospital than she was raving that the baby Eric (Greg Vaughan) and Sloan (Jessica Serfaty) had adopted is hers. (And not for nothing, but after that near-hysterical display, how does she expect anyone to take her and her claims seriously?) Two days later, she and the wee one are seeing if their DNA matches.

After weeks of Konstantin (John Kapelos) stealthy ingratiating himself to Maggie’s (Suzanne Rogers) circle of trust, he blows it all up with a story about Greek mobsters and earns himself an eviction notice. Huh?

And then there’s Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) and Xander (Paul Telfer) considering giving their love another chance as if they weren’t just embroiled in a particularly nasty custody battle.

While I have gone on record as being a fan of this romantic pairing (and who doesn’t adore a good old-fashioned good girl/bad boy romance), that was then, and this is now. Sarah, in all her hypocrisy and self-righteousness, is a patently unappealing character, and Xander deserves far more than her conditional love.

The one accelerated tale that I have no qualms with is the (inevitable) outing of Chad’s (Billy Flynn) dirty dealings. I’ll take anything, at any rate, that will see his and Stephanie’s (Abigail Klein) relationship crash and burn.

Further DAYS Musings

* Not that I put anything past her, but how exactly did Nicole get that pic of Baby Boy Brady that she was mooning over?

* One Step Forward: Holly (Ashley Puzemis) does her mother a solid by arranging for Eric to get a DNA test done on the baby…Two Steps Back: Only to leave her to her own devices while she runs off to make a play for her stepbrother.

* So, Marlena (Deidre Hall) “doesn’t know how [Nicole] lives with the pain” of losing a child, huh? This is despite her own firstborn passing from SIDS.

* While I’m thrilled that someone is shouting the obvious from the rooftops, it does feel a bit strange that Steve (Stephen Nichols), of all people, has taken it upon himself to out Konstantin’s villainy. When was the last time those two characters interacted with one another? What would have made more sense is someone from the Kiriakis camp tasking BlackPatch with investigating the rogue.

* Why was no one, from his partner to the commissioner, the least bit concerned that Harris (Steve Burton) had misplaced/lost his keys?
