John is the one who’s been poisoning Steve on Days Of Our Lives (DOOL)? John (Drake Hogestyn)?
Why? What for? What does he want? How does Steve (Stephan Nichols) going blind in his one, remaining good eye do his sleuthing partner any good?
Is John being brainwashed? Over 12,000 viewers resolved to get to the bottom of this mystery, once and for all!
Cleaning Up
Of course, John is being brainwashed, 84% of you insist. When is John ever NOT being brainwashed? When we first met him, he thought he was a pawn. Then he thought he was Roman.
Then there was the assassin phase, and the priest phase, and him stumbling around, basically wondering, “Are you my mother?” (Remember when, for a while, we all thought he was a member of the Partridge Family? Without the singing. Or the colorful bus.)
It’s amazing the poor man has any brain left to wash, at this point.

If John doesn’t have some mysterious entity telling him what to do, then he doesn’t know what to do. The only question at this point is who is making him do it? And why?
Is it Stefano? More often that not, the answer is Stefano. Or maybe this is part of Andre’s (Thaao Penghlis) plot. How about Vivian (Louise Sorel)? You’re hoping anyone is the bad guy here… except for John

And then there’s the 15% minority that’s holding out hope that John is doing this for Steve’s own good. He is protecting him, maybe Kayla (Mary Beth Evans), too, from some heretofore unnamed danger.
Maybe John needs Steve disabled so that his friend doesn’t go stumbling into something destined to destroy him. He’s already been presumed dead once, John doesn’t want to put Kayla and the rest of Salem through that again.
