It’s that time of year again when we have to wonder if our favorite soap opera will be making an appearance for the holidays. While one soap will be all-new all week long, three other soaps won’t.
Days of our Lives
You won’t miss a minute of Salem happenings as Days of our Lives is on all week long featuring different family Christmas celebrations across this odd little town. There will also be some Christmas miracles along the way, including a wedding between two fan favorites and Lani giving birth to her twins.
Sadly, it’s a very short week of all-new Port Charles action as Thursday, December 24, 2020 will feature an encore episode that first aired this past September. In it, the family is preparing for Mike’s death, so you’ll see some very poignant moments. On Christmas Day, GH is interrupted for sports.
The Young and the Restless
This week, we get four full new episodes of Genoa City fun as your favorite characters celebrate the holidays in style. On Christmas Day, enjoy last year’s holiday episode when both Ashley and Fen returned for the occasion.
The Bold and the Beautiful
Like its sister soap, we will see four all-new episodes of L.A. holiday fun. But, on Christmas Day you can enjoy an encore presentation of the soap’s 2018 holiday episode.
More on Soap Opera History
Soap opera began in the early 1900s, as radio broadcasts. Soap companies were behind the conception of the daytime dramas because they wanted to sell soaps to stay-at-home-moms. They did their job and also launched a lifelong programming format, the soap operas.
Spanning more than five decades, American sudsers have seen the rise and fall of daytime soaps. In the heyday of soaps in the early 1980s, there were up to 13 different soap operas broadcasted. However, over the years, the number has declined. Currently, there are only four American soap operas on the air.
Bringing the Drama
The four remaining soap operas currently on the air include Days of our Lives, The Young and the Restless (YR), General Hospital (GH), and The Bold and the Beautiful (BB). Check your local listings for air times.
