Eric and Stephanie’s marriage was one of the key relationships on The Bold and the Beautiful… but from the show’s early days, there was strain and malaise in the union. Watching the two lament their damaged union was a constant on the half-hour soap opera.
When Eric (John McCook) thought his wife Donna (Jennifer Gareis) had cheated on him with Owen (Brandon Beemer), he reconciled with Stephanie (Susan Flannery).
But then Eric learned that Donna was faithful and she’d been set up! When he informed Stephanie that he wasn’t going to leave Donna, Stephanie fought him at first. But then she decided enough was enough.

Steph was tried of trying to convince Eric that she was the right woman for him. Instead of yelling and screaming at each other, Eric and Stephanie spoke to each other firmly but relatively calmly as they listed the mistakes that each of them had made in their marriage.
Stephanie asked Eric for one “fig leaf of dignity” – Steph said that she’d walk out on Eric; it wouldn’t be him walking out on her. But they agreed to still work together. They were splitting on a personal level, but they’d always have Forrester Creations in common. When Eric noted that Stephanie had six guns (a slight exaggeration) registered in her name, Steph noted that it must say something about her character that despite all the abuse Eric heaped on her over the years she never shot him.
