Even the stars of The Bold and the Beautiful didn’t see this one coming! As the CBS soap prepares to celebrate its 40th anniversary in March 2027, the show is delivering plenty of unexpected drama with its latest pregnancy and surrogacy storyline. Soap Hub recently spoke with Jacqueline MacInnes Wood, Tanner Novlan, Lawrence Saint-Victor, and Murielle Hilaire about their initial reactions, the emotional challenges of the story, and some favorite memories from their time on B&B.

Key Takeaways

  • The B&B cast admitted the pregnancy and surrogacy storyline caught them by surprise.
  • Lawrence Saint-Victor confirmed he wasn’t involved in writing or planning this particular storyline.
  • As B&B approaches its 40th anniversary, the actors reflected on memorable moments and teased more emotional drama ahead.

Even the Cast Was Surprised

When Soap Hub asked the four actors about their first reactions to the storyline, the response was immediate. Tanner Novlan (Finn) summed it up with a single word: “Soapy.”

The actors agreed that the unexpected twists have given them plenty of challenging material. Even Saint-Victor (Carter), who also works as a writer on B&B, confirmed that he wasn’t involved in writing or planning this particular storyline.

The surprises didn’t end when the actors first learned what was coming, either. As the story developed, the emotional stakes became increasingly apparent.

“Halfway through, you’re like, whoa, this is meaty and heavy and emotional, painful,” Jacqueline MacInnes Wood (Steffy) explained.

The actors also acknowledged that some scripts required them to stop and consider how they would approach the material. That’s particularly challenging on a soap, where filming moves quickly, and there isn’t always much time to prepare for emotionally demanding scenes.

Pregnancy Drama Brings New Challenges

For Hilaire, Daphne’s desire to have a family is at the heart of her character’s experience. After finding love with Carter, Daphne believed a baby would complete their happiness.

“She wants a family. She finally found the love of her life,” Hilaire told Soap Hub, describing a child as the “cherry” on top.

Unfortunately, Daphne’s inability to have children has complicated those dreams. Hilaire explained that Daphne even considered walking away from Carter because she didn’t want him to suffer the disappointment of not becoming a father.

Meanwhile, Wood explained that Steffy’s experiences with trauma and loss have made the current situation especially frightening.

“One of her biggest fears is losing her family and losing what she is so grateful to have,” Wood said.

Although Steffy has faced devastating losses before, Wood pointed out that this situation is different because Steffy is carrying the baby herself.

For Finn, the challenge is understanding why his wife is so distraught. Novlan explained that Finn knows something isn’t right, particularly because Steffy’s reaction doesn’t seem to match what should be a happy situation.

“She’s acting very different for something that’s supposed to be a gift,” Novlan said.

With so many complicated emotions involved, the actors have plenty of material to explore as the storyline continues.

Looking Ahead to B&B’s 40th Anniversary

As The Bold and the Beautiful prepares to mark four decades on television in 2027, Soap Hub asked the cast what moments they’d enjoy revisiting.

For Wood, some of her favorite memories involve Steffy’s more adventurous years and the opportunities to film outside the studio. She recalled Steffy’s adrenaline-filled adventures, along with memorable location shoots, including her mountaintop wedding to Liam (Scott Clifton).

“Just getting outside and filming outside of our studio has always been fun,” Wood shared.

The cast also fondly remembered filming in Monte Carlo, with Novlan calling the experience a highlight.

Hilaire, who joined the show on January 7, 2025, admitted she hasn’t been around long enough to have the same history to draw from. However, she had one wish for the anniversary: opportunities to film outside.

While the actors didn’t reveal any specific plans for the milestone celebration, their memories highlighted some of the adventures that have helped make B&B a daytime television fixture.

More Twists Are Coming

The cast couldn’t reveal exactly what’s ahead for Steffy, Finn, Carter, and Daphne, but they made it clear that the current storyline is far from over. When Soap Hub asked what viewers should watch for in the coming weeks, the actors encouraged fans to keep tuning in, promising that the drama would continue getting deeper.

After nearly 40 years of unexpected pregnancies, complicated relationships, and family secrets, B&B clearly isn’t running out of ways to surprise its audience. And judging by the cast’s reactions, sometimes the actors are just as surprised as the viewers.
