Thorne and Macy – their romance couldn’t go the distance, but their love story still remains a huge favorite in the hearts of The Bold and the Beautiful fans around the world.

How Did Thorne and Macy Meet?

When Thorne and Macy found themselves locked inside a stateroom aboard the Queen Mary, the latter was sure her new companion looked familiar. And though Thorne didn’t recall the striking, towel-clad brunette, she quickly recalled that he was the tipsy bar patron who had spilled a drink all over her person a few nights previous.

After taking stock of their situation, the pair introduced themselves. She was Macy Alexander; he was Thorne Forrester. “What a coincidence,” Macy thought out loud.

Exactly what were the chances that the son of her mother’s biggest rivals would find himself trapped in her suite? (The answer? Pretty high considering that Sally Spectra was attempting to engineer a meeting between Macy and Thorne’s elder brother, Ridge.)

Around the same moment that the thought crossed Macy’s mind, Darla Einstein (Sally’s Gal Friday) unlocked the suite’s door. As he prepared to leave – and allow Macy to get dressed in privacy – Thorne couldn’t help but agree that maybe he and Macy had indeed met before. “Think about it,” she slyly teased, “it’ll come to ya.”

Early Complications
Weeks later, the pair ran into each other yet again. Both planned to drown their sorrows at the Bikini Bar – Los Angeles’ premier watering hole – all in the vain hope of forgetting their respective lost loves.

A friendly conversation was had and they subsequently decamped to the Forrester-owned cabin at Big Bear. They assumed it would be a one night stand, but fate continued to push them together.

Soon they were dating. But it was far from an exclusive arrangement. The recently-divorced Thorne insisted that he wanted to play the field so, in addition to Macy, he also courted Donna Logan.

All the while he remained unaware that the two women in his life were developing a kinship and frequently discussing the boyfriend whose identity they both decided to keep hidden.

Thanks to Sally’s machinations, Thorne and Macy found themselves co-hosting a charity event during which they crooned, What’s Forever For. Donna was stunned to see Macy performing with “her” boyfriend and Thorne was forced to choose between them.

He chose to remain with Macy but the subsequent revelation that she was Sally’s daughter threatened to tear them asunder. Luckily, Thorne persisted in his wooing – and Macy accepted his eventual proposal of marriage.

Despite the Forrester’s decrying the union, and insisting that they would not attend the ceremony, come October 23, 1991, they each made their way to the event. Ridge even stood beside Thorne as his best man. As part of the service, the musically-inclined bride and groom sang Here and Now.

Third-Party Interference

As the offspring of two warring dynasties, Thorne and Macy frequently found themselves standing in opposition to one another and the first great challenge to their relationship – Sally’s refusal to free Felicia Forrester from her exclusive designing contract – led to an estrangement.

A depressed Macy found comfort in the arms of tennis-pro, Jake MacLaine – who wasn’t particularly bothered about entertaining Macy while also taking Felicia to bed!

Thorne and Macy dutifully attempted reconciliation, but a series of obstacles – her false arrest for stealing the BeLieF formula coupled with her lingering attraction to Jake and budding alcoholism, as well as his lust for Karen Spencer (the identical twin of his late wife, Caroline) – drove them further afield.

For his part, Thorne did indeed stand by Macy as she repeatedly tried – and failed – to conquer her addiction to alcohol. A drunk driving incident spurred her into joining Alcoholics Anonymous but just when it seemed Macy had her life back on track, she fell under the sway of Anthony Armando.

Try as she might, Macy couldn’t resist the pull she felt towards Anthony. Thorne, in turn, filed for divorce. But for every end, there is a new beginning. They were no longer partners in life, but they became duet partners at Decadent Records.

Macy and Thorne – The Bitter End
Thorne and Macy made sweet music together and he nursed her through a battle with throat cancer. And when Anthony proved himself an obsessed, murder-minded fiend, Thorne and Macy worked together to bring him to justice.

Despite a remarriage, Thorne couldn’t deny his growing attraction to Brooke Logan and their affair resulted in a drunken Macy presumably dying in a car accident. Years later, Thorne discovered Macy living in Italy – purely by happenstance – and even though she was content with her new life (and her new lover, Lorenzo Barelli), Macy eventually returned to Los Angeles… and to Thorne.

But their future happiness lay elsewhere. Thorne’s extramarital dalliance with Darla culminated in the birth of a daughter and marriage while Macy was deemed Mrs. Deacon Sharpe prior to her untimely death.
