I wasn’t in the pilot of #Longmire, but was cast in the first episode we shot after the show was picked up. When we convened in Santa Fe, there was a table read of the script on the day before the cameras rolled, and that’s where I met most of the regular cast and crew — including Adam. I had one scene — three minutes at the end of the story. (The scene was with Rob, and it would be cut from the episode, which came in three minutes too long for its A&E time slot.) For the reading, the company was arrayed in a square composed of twelve long tables. I was sitting in the last seat of a side, at a right angle to Adam and Rob, who were the actors closest to me. As Rob and I were reading, Adam never took his eyes off me, and when we finished, he just said, quietly — “Dude…” Later, in season two, when I arrived at the studio to begin working on one of Jacob’s episodes, he greeted me with a welcoming hug at the bottom of the ramp leading up to the Sheriff’s Office, and said, mid-embrace, “You’re moving up, brother. It’s happening.” These may seem like small moments, but they speak to the generosity of Adam’s heart, and as an actor outside the circle of regulars, they meant a whole lot to me. In my mind, all these moons since come and gone, Mr. Bartley is not just a stellar artist — and a wonderful human being — he’s family. #TheBrothersYouFind @adamlbartley
