Scott Clifton’s been taking some flack on social media lately about Liam’s actions on The Bold and the Beautiful. However, Soap Hub feels the three-time Daytime-winning actor has been executing the words on the page with passion and purpose. That’s why Clifton’s been chosen again as BB’s Performer of the Week.
Scott Clifton — Performer of the Week
We’ve seen cases of mistaken infidelity on soaps before, but not quite like the one Liam experienced on BB. He peeked into Thomas’s (Matthew Atkinson) apartment, stunned to see his nemesis kissing his wife, Hope (Annika Noelle). However, it wasn’t Hope with whom he was locking lips, but rather an extremely lifelike dummy.
Had Liam made his presence known and confronted the two, he would have learned that a) his wife wasn’t being unfaithful and that b) Thomas needs some serious therapy. But that didn’t happen.
While Hope wasn’t guilty of being unfaithful, Liam was indeed guilty of “confirmation bias.” He already had it in his head that Thomas was going to manipulate his wife into his arms once more, so when he saw Thomas making the moves on the mannequin, Liam believed that he was witnessing what he feared.
Liam made a beeline to Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) and unloaded on her what he perceived to be the truth. In these scenes, viewers were reminded of the easy rapport Liam and Steffy share. Feeling he had nothing to lose, Liam fell into bed with his ex-wife after consuming some alcohol. He believed his current union was over.
Later, at Thomas’s apartment, Liam blasted Hope, telling her that he sensed she was always attracted to Thomas and that if she wanted to be with him then so be it. Hope couldn’t believe her ears, and recalling an earlier conversation with Thomas, finally figured out from where the confusion came. She showed Liam the shocking but still obvious truth — Thomas wasn’t kissing her; he was making out with the mannequin!
This twist called for Scott Clifton to express a variety of emotions in a short amount of time — disbelief, shock, and then horror. Liam knows that he is guilty of what he was accusing his wife of doing. Now, if he loses his family it won’t be because of Thomas’s actions — but his own. Stay tuned to see what’s going to happen next! The Bold and the Beautiful airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for air times.
