Independence Day brought out many feelings for Americans in what feels like very turbulent times for many. For former The Young and the Restless and current The Bold and the Beautiful star Heather Tom, it was a time to think of her son and what she will make sure he knows this country and the world.

Heather Tom: Moving Words

The actress took to Instagram to share a picture of herself and Zane, along with these moving words:

“My promise to you: I will do my best to give you a true and honest vision of the world. I will try to teach you to listen and then to agitate. I will try to teach you to recognize and stand up against injustice,” Tom wrote.

“I will try to explain to you that Democracy is not the enemy, but that democracy is imperfect and does not work equally for everyone. I will try to explain that sometimes the color of our skin makes a difference when it comes to opportunity and benefit.

“I will educate you that as a good citizen we can fix democracy when we take responsibility for our neighbor; our community. I will make sure you know that as a good citizen we must vote and be active and informed. And most of all, I will tell you that our country was built and born on protest. It is our right as free people and it is why we should have hope.”

When children learn to care and empathize at the start, they have a good foundation and that gives us all hope for America. Soap Hub thanks Heather Tom for caring so much.
