The Bold and the Beautiful star Denise Richards took a bit of time off playing Shauna so that she could shoot a movie that’s being released just in time for the holidays. The actress appears in Timecrafters: The Treasure of Pirate’s Cove!

Denise Richards Has A New Film

The movie’s story has four kids finding an ancient map and have to figure out a way to outsmart a group of pirates who have traveled 300 years to recover the lost treasure of Captain Kidd. What drew Richards to the family-friendly film?

“A big part of it was that my whole family can enjoy this film,” Richards tells Soap Hub, “mostly, our youngest daughter Eloise. I felt this was a ‘feel good’ movie and it reminds me of ones I’d watch with my family when I was growing up.”

While the film will be available in approximately 350 movie theaters, starting Saturday, December 12, Timecrafters: The Treasure of Pirate’s Cove can also be seen on streaming platforms. “The timing is so ironic with so many families being at home,” Richards notes, “this is something that the whole family can watch together.” (Timecrafters is set to be distributed on a streaming platform sometime next year.)

“My character, Victoria Dare, is a strong woman,” Richards remarks, “and she’s fun and has a sense of humor, which is good because of the situation going on around her. I try to bring a little bit of humor to the story.”

Victoria’s a single mother, still dealing with the loss of her husband to the sea five years earlier. Alas, she attracts the wrong men as she attempts to find a father-figure for her son.

Co-stars include Patrick Muldoon (ex-Austin, Days of our Lives) as Mr. Dare, Eric Balfour (24) as Pistol, and Malcolm McDowell (Captain Lynch) as Captain Lynch! The latter’s presence in Timecrafters lends authenticity to the film’s theme given that he appeared as H.G. Wells in the classic 1979 time travel film Time After Time.

“Malcolm is a legend and is amazing,” Richards says. “I’m always grateful to work with an actor like him.”

Richards and Muldoon have shared screen-time before in the 1997 film Starship Troopers. “He’s one of my very best friends, and Patrick is friends with my husband [Aaron], too,” the actress says.

“We’ve been friends since I was a teenager and I’m close with his family. We take advantage of any time that we can work together. I’ve known Eric and worked with him, too,” she adds. “We had so much fun.”

The film’s story is filled with adventure, but Richards says she’ll remember how much fun she had making Timecrafters, which is set to be the first in a series of movies. “People ask what memories I have of projects I’ve done and it’s always the stuff that happened off-camera,” Richards shares. “I remember on my last day of filming Eric drove my daughter and her friends and me to the airport early in the morning. I remember night shoots and some of us goofing around and having fun. Those are the moments I remember the most.”

The film is written by Jeffrey Butscher and Chip Frasher, directed by Rick Spalla, and produced by Spalla and Craig Albrecht. Timecrafters also stars Casey Simpson (Josh), McKinley Blehm (Brigette), Lucas Jaye (Chip), Connor Cain (Hedge), and Gavin Magnus (Byron).
