Thorsten Kaye is a man of few words but the soap hopper who is coming up on a decade of playing Ridge on The Bold and the Beautiful recently sat down with an overseas journalist to reflect on his life. Highlights from the interview include Kaye revealing that he’s asked his B&B boss Bradley Bell for some time off.

The good news is that Kaye’s not going to be missing from the screen anytime soon. The actor spoke to Belgium-based news site HLN.BE about a variety of topics including wanting to take a vacation for a few months. Kaye said that he has promised his wife, actress Susan Haskell (ex-Marty, One Life to Live) and their two daughters, McKenna and Marlowe, they’ll be taking a “small world trip together.”
The actor says his plan is to visit with his family all the places he’s already been to. “We are really looking forward to that,” Kaye shares. “I have already agreed with my boss [Brad] that next year or the year after that he should write me out of the story for a few months.”

Asked about what it was like replacing Ronn Moss in the role of Ridge, Kaye said that Haskell gave him insights that offered a new perspective. His wife pointed out that more than one actor has played the iconic role of James Bond. “When Sean Connery gave up as James Bond, everyone thought that secret agent 007 was over,” Kaye points out. “Then came Roger Moore, and other actors after him. And James Bond still attracts many people to the cinema.”
While Kaye plays an experienced and successful designer onscreen, he says that off-screen he’s not tied to labels. “I have zero knowledge of fashion,” he says. “On the set I am offered the clothes I have to wear that day, and I put them on [and then] I change them after the workday with old jeans and a T-shirt.”
