Weekly Recaps: October 12-16, 2026
Monday, October 12 – Episode #387
Ted (Keith D. Robinson) and Shanice (Ernestine Johnson) returned from New York as an engaged couple. At the hospital, they updated Ashley (Jen Jacob), Aunt Monica (Iona Morris Jackson), and Nicole, who inadvertently spotted them and the ring. Nicole took the engagement hard. She called Dani (Karla Mosley) for support and reinforcement. Meanwhile, Shanice asked Ashley to be her maid of honor, while Ted asked Andre (Sean Freeman) to be his best man.
At Bill’s law firm, Bill (Timon Kyle Durrett) got Hayley (Marquita Goings) to sign the divorce papers, even though she said she wanted to read them through thoroughly. He got some digs in at her expense. And he was willing to give up some money and the St. Bart’s house that he never wanted. Hayley told him that he shouldn’t think that he and Dani would reunite. That she was with someone much younger and better than him.
At Orphey Gene’s, Martin’s political event happened. Kat (Colby Nixon), Tyrell (Jaden Lucas Miller), and Samantha (Najah Jackson) were there. Tyrell experienced drama when Jessica (Camryn Jade) returned wanting to reunite. Chessy (Madison Alsobrook) was there as well. She left when Tyrell hesitated on making any decisions.
And she headed to the club where Anastasia (Timeca Seretti) confronted Anita (Tamara Tunie) and Vernon (Clifton Davis). She didn’t approve of Chessy seeing Tyrell. She deemed Tyrell unworthy of Chessy. Anita and Vernon defended their grandson and then headed to Orphey Gene’s, where they supported Martin (Brandon Claybon).
At the precinct, Izaiah (Lami) made plans with Elon (Malachi Malik). But ultimately, Jacob (Jibre Hordges) and Elon had to get back to the Impaler case. They caught a break in the case of Lia’s death. Unfortunately, that meant very bad things for Smitty (Mike Manning). Naomi (Arielle Prepetit) was with him at his home when Jacob showed up with a warrant to search Smitty’s house. They found a bottle with allegedly the same type of drugs that were connected to Lia’s death. Jacob arrested Smitty.
Tuesday, October 13 – Episode #388
Ashley and Shanice talked about the wedding, which started to feel overwhelming for Shanice. Nicole bounced back from her initial reaction to hearing the news about Ted and Shanice’s engagement. It was more about the fact that Ted was moving on before her.
While Nicole and Ted talked about how he should have told her this would happen, Shanice filled Kial (Greg Vaughan) in on her engagement. Kial congratulated Ted, and the four of them chatted. Nicole let Ted and Shanice know that she had given Kial a key to her mansion. After finding that out, Ted gave a strange look.
Carlton (Robert Christopher Riley) also found out about the engagement. Afterward, he went to Uptown for a drink, where he and Heather reconnected. They took their act to her hotel suite and got down to some dangerous foreplay. Heather (Ashley Jones) took a knife out and ripped his shirt open. He took the knife away from her, but ultimately, didn’t have a problem with her being unpredictable and dangerous…in the bedroom.
At the precinct, Jacob questioned Smitty. But Smitty told Jacob he didn’t know where those drugs came from. Meanwhile, Martin, Kat, Anita, and Vernon celebrated his successful campaign event at Vernon and Anita’s place. Unfortunately, their joy didn’t last long because Naomi called Vernon up and told her grandad about the arrest. Smitty didn’t want her to call Martin, but she got around that by calling Vernon.
Tyrell and Samantha talked about Tyrell’s sudden triangle. He still didn’t know how to handle things. Samantha pushed for Jessica, even though she broke her brother’s heart. He ended up texting them both the same message. Nicole found out that Smitty was arrested.
Martin, Kat, Anita, and Vernon showed up at the precinct. They weren’t happy with Jacob. Smitty didn’t think Martin should be there. But Martin said he wanted to protect Smitty for a change. Vernon and Elon had words. Elon told the Dupree patriarch that he didn’t want to mess up Jacob’s case by helping the Duprees. He was prioritizing his family for a change. Smitty was arraigned and got out on bail. At home, he and Martin broke the news of his arrest to Tyrell and Samantha. He was charged with drug-induced homicide.
Wednesday, October 14 – Episode #389
On the phone, Bill told Hayley that the money had been transferred to her account. Chelsea (RhonniRose Mantilla) popped in at Dani’s place to talk about Bill’s birthday. She wanted Dani to help her put something together for him. Dani refused despite Chelsea’s hard efforts to talk her into it. Later at Bill’s office, Chelsea gave her dad a gag gift. She signed him up for a dating site and matched his profile with older women who wouldn’t pose any problems for Bill.
The video of Smitty’s perp walk at the police station was leaked. Leslie (Trisha Mann-Grant) visited Hayley at her hotel suite so they could gab about it. Nicole and Samantha were at Caffeine Fix when two of Samantha’s fellow debutantes gave her trouble over the video. June (Jasmine Burke) yelled at Jacob and told him and Naomi about the video. June met up with Samantha when things at school became too awful for the teen. And Shonda (Dawntavia Marrero) showed up at Smitty and Martin’s to break the news of the leaked video.
A summit took place at Anita and Vernon’s house. It included Martin, Smitty, Shonda, Naomi, Anita, and Vernon. Martin and Naomi had words about Jacob. They squashed their beef soon after, however. Smitty didn’t want to come between them.
Leslie popped in at the precinct to talk to Marcel (Darryl W. Handy). When she had chatted with her girl, Hayley, the wannabe black widow got paranoid and scared when Leslie mentioned Marcel’s name. She wanted to know what was up with that.
Shonda arranged for a press conference to go down at Martin’s unofficial office, aka Orphey Gene’s. Dani joined them there. And Bill got the call as well. And he was happy about that because he had been feeling out of the loop. Shortly before the press conference started, Hayley showed up. Vernon handled it, however. He made her realize it was better that she leave Orphey Gene’s without her takeout.
Thursday, October 15 – Episode #390
Martin’s press conference at Orphey Gene’s took a turn after Heather had a reporter go rogue and create chaos with his questions about Smitty’s drug-induced homicide charges. Shonda shut down the press conference after Martin tried to keep his composure.
Ted was upset that nobody had told him about Smitty’s arrest and the press conference. But while he was in surgery, he missed several calls from Martin. Anita and Nicole tried to stay optimistic for Smitty’s sake. But after the press conference, he knew what had happened was disastrous.
Meanwhile, Vanessa (Lauren Buglioli) told Joey (Jon Lindstrom) she and Heather were going shopping for condos. This didn’t make him happy. He wished that Vanessa could stall things. But he also knew his sister. What she wanted, she got. At Uptown, Heather introduced herself to Hayley. It wasn’t until Vanessa arrived that Hayley learned Heather was Joey’s sister.
After the press conference, Vernon called Joey and told him about Hayley’s presence at Orphey Gene’s. Dani and Bill briefly talked. He thanked her. If it wasn’t for her, he wouldn’t be celebrating another birthday. Then she left for a family meeting that Bill wasn’t invited to. At the country club, Bill and Ted lamented being outside of the Dupree inner circle.
But at Anita and Vernon’s, the family had a strategy session. Their main goal was to figure out how to help Smitty, who found out that his nomination for the journalism award he was up for had been rescinded. They brainstormed ideas and came up with a plan of attack. Smitty thanked everyone for supporting him. And he told them that he loved them.
Heather found the perfect condo. Vanessa had to break it to Joey after he had words with Hayley, that is. And Heather and Hayley ended up in the same elevator.
Friday, October 16 – Episode #391
Heather sat down with Dani and Andre at the country club. She shared her news that she’s buying a condo. Andre lost his cool when he wondered why she would move to the area. Heather learned that her offer was accepted, and Andre left Dani and Heather to celebrate without him. Later, at home, Dani wanted to know what was going on with him and Heather. He felt the more distance the better. But Dani suggested that they have dinner so he could get to know Heather better.
Naomi got Bill a gift — it was her favorite way of decompressing. A paper airplane kit. Bill ultimately asked her about them working together. But she turned him down again. She loved collaborating with him. But she wasn’t ready to shut down her own firm to hang up a shingle at his.
Chelsea and Kat were at Uptown when Leslie approached their table. Kat had no problem telling Leslie that Ted and Shanice had gotten engaged. Leslie covered. She didn’t let them see her sweat. She acted mature. And she was all about Marcel. When she sat down with Izaiah, he was surprised that Leslie wasn’t more bothered by the news.
Eva returned from the Seattle plastic surgery convention. Her first stop was with Ted and Shanice. And then she headed to Uptown to meet up with Izaiah and Leslie. She found out that Kat had blabbed the news about Ted and Shanice. She had wanted to be the one to break the news. After Leslie left, Eva confronted Kat. But Kat didn’t back down. She said she would protect her family every time, and Leslie needed to know.
Hayley tried to get into Randy’s good graces again, but he couldn’t believe he would sell him out like she did. She said she was fighting for her life. She had to do something. But she missed him. And she wanted him in her life. And, of course, she needed something. She promised Randy (Maurice P. Kerry) his money. But she also needed him to score her a new identity.
Vanessa tried one more time to get Heather to back off from her new condo. And Heather wasn’t happy about it. But Vanessa really did think that Heather moving close to Joey would give them the chance to get close again. Heather showed up at Joey’s. She said she wanted to be in his life. But she wouldn’t try to partner up with him again. She just wanted someone to share her day with. She wanted to be close to him again. The siblings had a moment. But at the end of the day, they both seemed to be pretending.
Leslie showed up at Garland with flowers for Shanice and Ted. She congratulated them on the engagement. Ted warned her that she had better not do anything to ruin their wedding. She made it seem like she was happy with Marcel and moved on. Has she?
