Monday, August 31 – Episode #358
After spotting Hayley (Marquita Goings) with Sammy/Randy (Maurice P. Kerry) at Uptown, Bill (Timon Kyle Durrett) put Hayley to the test. He grilled her about her dental appointment because that was the excuse she used. He also asked Caroline (Ellie Wang) to let him know if she finds out anything about Hayley and Sammy.
Dani (Karla Mosley) updated Nicole (Daphnée Duplaix) about Chelsea’s (RhonniRose Mantilla) and Kat’s (Colby Nixon) impending sweatshop scandal. Nicole also called Dani out on getting too close to Bill.
Meanwhile, Elon (Malachi Malik) tried to get information about Lia Whitmore’s (Cecelia Specht) death from Joey (Jon Lindstrom). Joey later took his frustrations about Heather out on Vanessa (Lauren Buglioli). Heather (Ashley Jones) deliberately cut her hand so she could go to Garland. There, she ran into Carlton (Robert Christopher Riley) and found out his name and that he was a plastic surgeon. In turn, he found out her name. But later, Nicole told him that Heather was Joey’s sister.
After receiving unconventional advice from Ted (Keith D. Robinson), Andre (Sean Freeman) changed his tactics with Heather. When he showed up at her place to tell her that he and Dani were leaving town for work, he stopped playing hard-to-get. And they kissed. He did this in hopes of buying time to figure out a plan, but it would also give Heather a little of what she wanted so that she would back off for a bit.
Finally, Grayson (Jordi Vilasuso) told Ashley (Jen Jacob) about. Lia’s death. Then he went to the precinct to talk to Jacob (Jibre Hordges). He feared for his safety.
Tuesday, September 1 – Episode #359
Nicole counseled Kat, who was stressed about the ChelseaKat sweatshop scandal. Nicole advised Kat to take a trip with Tomas (Alex Alegria). But Kat said Tomas probably wouldn’t be able to take the time. Not with Bill’s health issues and having to step up at the office.
Meanwhile, Chelsea ended up talking to Izaiah (Lami) about the scandal. And he was really worried about how Kat was reacting to this business crisis. At Caffeine Fix, Martin (Brandon Claybon) caught up with Eva (Ambyr Michelle). They chatted about Kat, the transplant, and Eva’s scars. Later, Izaiah, who had also spoken with Carlton about Eva’s scars, created a romantic atmosphere for him and Eva.
Dani attempted to pack for Korea, but she was having issues. Naomi and Chelsea tried to help her. She also asked Nicole for advice. Andre overheard Dani talk to her girls about letting her know if anything happens to them or to Bill while she was gone. He brought Bill up when they talked later.
Andre left when he realized he didn’t have his backup camera. While he was out, he stopped by Uptown, where he saw Carlton. The two caught up. Carlton told Andre about his one-night stand with Heather. Andre was shocked and tried to talk him out of pursuing Joey’s sister. Carlton didn’t go for it.
Bill came clean to Hayley about seeing her and Sammy at Uptown. Through tears, Hayley came up with an excuse for why she and Sammy were hanging out. Bill seemed to buy the excuse for. now. Naomi showed up at his office. Hayley quickly excused herself. And that’s when Naomi told Bill that Dani was leaving for Korea soon.
Bill showed up at Dani’s, where he made a heartfelt confession. He said he wished he had appreciated her more while they were married. Dani thanked him for that. Hayley made a brief stop at Uptown, where she called Randy and said she was picking up a sandwich for her husband. And she was going to dose it.
Back at Bill’s law office, Hayley prepped Bill’s sandwich. Naomi came in and was hungry. So she grabbed half of the sandwich and started eating it.
Wednesday, September 2 – Episode #360
Vernon supported Anita as her fellow Articulettes, Tracy (Maria Howell) and Sharon (Bonita Brisker), showed up. They gave Anita the hard sell on joining them on stage at the D.C. Jazz Fest. She demonstrated why she wasn’t ready. They understood. But the talk also strayed into upcoming album territory.
It turned out they would need to get Leslie’s approval to use Barbara’s voice, which is the whole point of their going into the recording studio. Anita had to call up Leslie. The group ventured to the country club to ask Leslie for approval. She said she wanted to be in the studio and a producer credit in addition to the money she would get.
Martin was on his way to the club to play squash with Vernon when he asked if Smitty (Mike Manning) wanted to join. But Smitty wasn’t in the mood. He couldn’t stop thinking about Lia’s death. He wasn’t so sure that she took her own life. Regardless, he felt guilty over his relentless reporting. He thought maybe it was his investigative articles that helped cost Lia her life.
Joey comforted Vanessa, who was grieving Doug (Jason Graham). The first anniversary of Doug’s death was approaching, and she was feeling down. She told him she was meeting up with Deanna (Angela Fairley), who wanted her help going through a box that her dad had left her.
Obviously, this box worried Joey after what Doug left for Vanessa. He had to burn the letter that called out his nefarious actions. Joey told Randy he needed to up his search for any safe deposit box that Doug left behind.
Meanwhile, at Uptown, Deanna was talking to “Doug” when Noah (Nick Hagelin) saw her and asked her who she was talking to. He stayed for a bit and comforted her. Later, Vanessa and Deanna were at a table. Deanna couldn’t believe that Vanessa was actually grieving for Doug, not after starting up with Joey so soon “after” his death. Ultimately, Deanna asked Vanessa to leave. She said she would go through the box alone.
After Eva and Izaiah were talked into dinner with Leslie, they went home and had the romantic night Izaiah had planned for his girlfriend. Eva was determined that they would have their time.
Thursday, September 3 – Episode #361
Leslie showed up at Bill and Hayley’s house. Bill woke up to see Leslie’s face, and he wasn’t pleased. Neither was Hayley, for that matter. Leslie said she was there for Hayley, to be her friend through this time. But Hayley again insisted that they were not friends. Bill left the room so he wouldn’t have to be around Leslie. The two do not get along.
Vanessa and Nicole were at Uptown, where they talked about Doug’s death. Vanessa said she still didn’t know who to blame for her husband’s death. Meanwhile, Joey was alone at his place. He was feeling his feelings about his role in Doug’s death. He was on his tablet looking at an article about a single-car accident claiming a life.
Jacob updated Smitty on the San Francisco operation of the red market plasma ring, which just imploded in a similar way to how the D.C. operation ended. Smitty was ecstatic that his words had an impact, and Jacob seemed more determined than ever to discover the identity of The Impaler.
Smitty stopped by Nicole’s office at the hospital. He wanted to tap into her forensic psychological skills. She said she never finished studying it. She could refer him to someone who could better help him, but he wanted her help creating a profile for The Impaler. At Orphey Gene’s, Elon and Naomi talked. Naomi was worried about Jacob.
From another table, Heather spotted the police chief and his daughter-in-law talking and wanted intel. She sneakily connected with June (Jasmine Burke) and pumped her for information. June sang like a canary. Heather introduced herself to Naomi and spilled what June had told her about Naomi’s husband and father-in-law.
Heather visited her brother, who was with a grieving Vanessa. When Vanessa went to take a shower, Heather and Joey talked. And Heather guessed that Joey had something to do with Doug’s death.
Meanwhile, Ted did damage control in the wake of Lia’s death and found out Shanice’s (Ernestine Johnson) brothers would be in town. He contacted them and would be meeting them at the country club. Leslie wanted in on the Garland press conference about Lia to assure her clinic’s reputation stays solid.
And Hayley gave Bill a dosed-up smoothie. When he was asleep on the couch, he fell onto the floor. When Hayley came back to the room, she saw Bill unconscious on the ground. Instead of helping him, she kicked his foot to see if he would respond.
Friday, September 4 – Episode #362
In Seoul, Dani did her thing while Andre was out working. One of those things was texting with Bill. Andre returned right when she laughed at something he said. The two also got a mysterious bottle of champagne. The same brand as the one Heather had given them. That caused Andre to unpack his paranoia. He wanted to find out who had sent the bottle, but Dani stopped him. After all, he did tell Heather that he and Dani were leaving town.
Bill stunned Hayley when he woke up after drinking the dosed-up smoothie. He later caught up with Chelsea, who was still reeling from the scandal involving ChelseaKat. The company received bad press, which made it seem as though pulling out of the Tokyo collective was a sign of incompetence. The public didn’t know the truth yet.
Joey had Randy get over to Orphey Gene’s, where Deanna had a box of things her father had left her. Vanessa got there as Randy was talking to Deanna. Once it was just Vanessa and Deanna, the two talked about the box. There was an envelope labeled “Cause of Death.”
But it wasn’t anything incriminating against Joey. Vanessa and Deanna had a verbal fight about Joey. It was clear that Deanna still hadn’t accepted the man in her life. Vanessa rushed to Joey’s place, where she had told him about what had happened. This was after Joey and Heather had their own heated conversation. She didn’t back down from her accusation that Joey had something to do with Doug’s death. Ted was at the club when he and Heather connected and shared a twisted toast.
Randy met up with Hayley at her place. He was taking a chance since Bill was gone. Hayley explained what had happened earlier. And that somehow Bill woke up and pretended nothing had transpired. Bill suddenly came home, and Randy had to rush out the back so that Bill wouldn’t see him.
