The Beyond the Gates recap for Wednesday, March 12, sees Nicole and Eva grow closer, and Leslie decides to run a DNA test on Ted. Plus, Doug gets deeper in debt with Joey while Vanessa keeps her options open with Diego. Derek has an emergency, and Martin tries to keep Smitty from returning to work.

What Happened On Beyond The Gates?

Joey (Jon Lindstrom) and Randy (Maurice P. Kerry) met at Orphie Gene’s, where Randy asked his boss how always knew how to manipulate his clients. As they talked, Randy complained about his lack of luck with women, and Joey explained that gambling was often more addictive than sex for certain people.

Of course, Joey said he didn’t have an addictive personality himself but had a talent for manipulating those who did. When Randy joked about Doug (Jason Graham), Joey said he didn’t care about the man—only about what he could get from him.

Randy was concerned about Doug and asked Joey not to harm him. Joey said that Doug was only useful if he was alive. If Randy truly wanted to protect him, he needed to ensure he kept coming back to the casino.

Derek’s Emergency

Meanwhile, Andre (Sean Freeman) visited the hospital and took a picture of Ashley (Jen Jacob) before pulling out a framed series of photos of her. He complimented her, saying she didn’t have a bad side, which impressed her.

Derek (Ben Gavin) was rushed into the ER after being knocked down. Liam, the EMT, explained they had to drag him out. Andre speculated that it was just a concussion, but Ashley reminded him he wasn’t a doctor. He told her not to assume the worst and then left to visit his aunt.

Ashley rushed to Derek’s room, and he joked about why she looked upset. She told him that a burning ceiling had collapsed on him. Shivering, Derek realized he was in the hospital. He struggled to remember anything but thought he might have saved a cat. Ashley reassured him that memory lapses were normal for a concussion and warned him against taking unnecessary risks once he recovered. She kissed him.

Trouble Brews For Nicole And Ted

At the country club, Eva (Ambyr Michelle) joined Nicole (Daphnée Duplaix) and brought her Ted’s (Maurice Johnson) laptop since hers had died. Nicole talked about her workload, and Eva offered to help. She was impressed when Eva volunteered to assist with drafting her speech. As they worked, Eva suggested incorporating personal experiences, but Nicole admitted those memories were too raw. Eva ignored a phone call as they edited the speech.

Andre showed up, and Nicole suggested he come back later to talk about photos. Eva excused herself, and Nicole promised to repay her for her help before leaving with Andre.

Meanwhile, Leslie (Trisha Martin-Mann) repeatedly called Eva, and she finally picked up. Leslie checked if everything was proceeding as planned. Eva urged her to be patient, but Leslie assured her that the Richardsons wouldn’t know what hit them.

Later, Nicole and Andre visited the hospital to check on Ashley and Derek. Ashley told them that Derek would be kept for observation for a few days. She returned to Derek’s room, where they continued to flirt.

Back home, Eva found Leslie staring into space. Eva shared details about her day, including her work on the gala. Leslie said that the event would be the perfect opportunity to expose Nicole and Ted. Eva argued that there was no reason to ruin Nicole’s big day.

Leslie accused her of growing too close to Nicole and demanded assurance of her commitment to their revenge. To prove herself, Eva said she’d stolen a straw from Ted to get his DNA. Leslie insisted they could use it to confront Ted when he denied Eva’s paternity. Eva wanted to wait for the DNA results, but as soon as she walked away, Leslie called someone for a favor.

Vanessa And Doug’s Trouble Grows

Elsewhere, Vanessa (Lauren Buglioli) admired Diego (Carlos E. Palacio), and Doug’s sudden appearance startled her. She was distracted by Diego as he spoke to somebody else. Later, Doug ignored a phone call and told his wife he had the afternoon off. He apologized for his past behavior and for giving her reasons to doubt him. Vanessa was glad for his attitude change but insisted she needed to return to her workout. After she left, Randy texted Doug, asking him to meet at the casino.

At the casino, Joey told Doug that some high rollers were in town. Doug was surprised when Joey offered to front him some money to play. Before long, Doug ran out of money, but Joey continued to offer him more. Doug said it was too much, but Joey insisted. As Joey and Randy watched, Joey explained that he planned to push Doug so deep into debt that he wouldn’t know what hit him.

Back at the club, Diego caught Vanessa flirting with another trainer. Once the trainer left, Diego confronted her. She slapped him, and said that she would see whoever she wanted. Diego told her that no one could satisfy her like he could.

Martin’s Nightmares Continue

At home, Smitty (Mike Manning) showed up with heirloom tomatoes, only to find Martin (Brandon Claybon) fuming. Martin learned that Smitty was still looking for journalism jobs. Smitty said he needed to do what was right for him, but Martin worried he would get involved in something dangerous.

Their children, Samantha (Najah Jackson) and Tyrell (Jaden Lucas Miller) walked in as they argued. Smitty explained he wanted to return to work. The kids didn’t see the issue and wondered why Martin was so upset. Martin said he wanted to protect them. Samantha pointed out that most parents worked, and there was no reason Smitty shouldn’t have a job.

Martin relented, agreeing for Smitty to take on one assignment as a test. Smitty tried to entice Martin upstairs, but Martin claimed he had work to do. Later, Martin fell asleep and had a nightmare. He woke up yelling, which startled the kids. Smitty reassured him they were safe and sent the teens back to bed before lying down again.
