Yet Another Soap Star Victim Of Social Media Scam… For YOUR Money!

Eric Martsolf was asked by a Twitter follower if he was soliciting funds on another social media platform in order for fans to spend a day with him. His answer left no room for doubt.

The Days of Our Lives (DOOL) actor who plays Brady Black on the show made it clear that he was not the one asking fans for money in exchange for a meeting with him, and let the follower know that it was a scam.

This makes Martsolf part of an unfortunate club of soap actors who have been the victim of an Internet scam that includes co-star Stephen Nichols (Steve), former General Hospital star Ryan Paevey (ex-Nathan), as well as Daniel Goddard (Cane) and Kristoff St. John (Neil) from The Young and the Restless.

Goddard and St. John also fell victim to an impersonator asking fans for cash under fake accounts, while co-star Doug Davidson appeared to have had his real account hacked, with someone strongly criticizing his soap late one night in June.

Paevey asked his followers to block the fake account that was using his name, picture, and an almost word-for-word copy of his brief biography. What gave that impersonator away as a fake was that he asked for “DMs only.” (“DMs” means “direct messages” on Twitter.)

As for Martsolf, the impersonator created a fake Instagram account, on which they were inviting DAYS fans to meet him, even giving the name of an agent to make it seem legitimate. Martsolf didn’t reveal whether or not that was really his agent’s name, but rather only confirmed that the post was a scam.

Social media has been a mixed blessing for fans and actors alike. While it gives performers immediate feedback about what’s working and what isn’t on their shows, and fans get to feel up-close and personal with their favorite actors, impersonators have been souring what is normally a positive experience.
