Days of Our Lives (DOOL) star Stephen Nichols hosted a chat with his Twitter followers on Wednesday, answering questions and sharing his thoughts on his current situation with the show.

As fans piled on with questions, he let them what’s happening with his exit and shared special memories of his decades in Salem.

One fan expressed disappointment that more attention wasn’t given to how Steve was dealing with the aftermath of losing his sight.

“I too was disappointed when that struggle was not given more attention. Why open that can of worms if you aren’t going to fish,” he shared.

He didn’t say whether or not that disappointment helped to fuel his exit, but he did reveal when you’ll last see Steve on your screens. So, get ready for a sad goodbye in September.

Whatever drives Steve to leave Salem, it won’t be happening for a couple of months yet. But, does he find out what Kayla did to get his bionic eye? Only time will tell.

He was also asked what makes soaps different now from years ago — does it have to do with finances?

“I do believe budget restrictions [affect] every aspect of how the shows are produced now. I am not sure what the numbers are but some shows look like they take a lot of care in what they create and others are struggling with too little money or too little care.”

But not every question got into the nitty-gritty of the state of soaps. Another fan wanted to know his favorite set — and he didn’t stick to just DAYS for his answer.

“I’ll give you several: Steve’s apartment under Shenanigans, The rooftop [where] Steve and Kayla first made love, The wedding boat, [General Hospital’s] Cassadine Island, [The Young and the Restless’] Tucker’s office/apartment, Steve and Kayla’s new house 2015.”

But perhaps the most thought-provoking question was when someone asked if he’s ever dreamed in character and if so, was it skewed due to the eyepatch?

“Interesting question, yes I have dreamed as Patch. And when I awaken, I am so grateful to have two eyes.”

That’s certainly understandable after playing this iconic role on and off for over 33 years.
