The Young and the Restless

Guess Which Fabulous Soap Star Was Also A Game Show Host?

You watch them every day on your favorite daytime dramas, but how well do you know the careers of soap stars when they’re not on your television screen?

Which Soap Star Hosted A Game Show?

One of these fabulous actors was actually the host of a popular game show, and he even auditioned to take over another high profile hosting job at one point in his career.

Maurice Benard
While this handsome actor is primarily known for his role as Sonny Corinthos on General Hospital, Maurice Benard also claims some additional acting credits. Did this daytime mobster host game shows by night?

No, Benard is not the former game show host. He did, however, portray Desi Arnaz in the CBS TV movie Lucy & Desi: Before the Laughter. He also played Nico Kelly on ABC’s now-defunct soap All My children and has many other TV and film credits.

Drake Hogestyn
On Days of our Lives, fans watch Drake Hogestyn portray John Black, Marlena’s other half and the man who once poisoned his best friend Steve (Stephen Nichols). Did he ever moonlight as a game show host?

Hogestyn did have a life outside of acting, but it was as a baseball player rather than a quiz host. In fact, he was drafted by both the Saint Louis Cardinals and the New York Yankees, and he signed with the former. (Un)fortunately, an injury sidelined him, and the rest is one half of DAYS supercouple history!

Darin Brooks
Soap fans know this Hawaiian-born actor as Wyatt on The Bold and the Beautiful these days, but before that, Darin Brooks portrayed Max Brady on DAYS.

While game show host Bob Barker once punched Wyatt in L.A., a la the film Happy Gilmore, this daytime actor never actually worked as a quiz show host himself.

Doug Davidson
This ever-popular star of The Young and the Restless actually did host a game show. You’ll never guess what led to his fun, primetime gig.

In the early 1990s, Davidson appeared on Family Feud when the YR cast played for charity. Interestingly, his appearance led to him hosting a 30-minute, five-night a week version of The New Price Is Right, but it was canceled after less than five months.

Amazingly, Doug Davidson was one of few people who auditioned to take over for Bob Barker on the daytime version of The Price Is Right when Barker retired. Ultimately, that role went to actor Drew Carey.
