On Thursday, September 1, The Young and the Restless airs its 11,000th episode. Savvy soap fans will recognize the show’s co-creator, Lee Phillip Bell, in a special guest appearance during the milestone episode!

“It was sweetly done,” Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki) tells Soap Hub of Bell’s guest spot. “The scene is really charming and sweet. I’m glad that she’s doing this.”

It’s not the first time Bell, the widow of late Y&R creator William J. Bell, has appeared on Y&R. She and late pianist Van Cliburn appeared as themselves on the show in a party scene with Thomas Scott and the late Jeanne Cooper (ex-Katherine) nearly a decade ago on Sept. 11, 2006!

Thomas Scott is thrilled that viewers will get to once again glimpse the show’s gracious co-creator on-screen.

“If you are ever at the dinner table with her or anywhere, she can make you feel like you are the most important person not only in the room, but in the world,” the actress says. “She has that knack. She’s one of the most charming and gracious people I’ve ever known, man or woman. She just has that gift.”

In addition to Bell’s appearance, fans can look forward to Nichelle Nichols, best known as Uhura on Star Trek, show up as Neil’s estranged mother, Lucinda.

“There’s so much going on,” says Melissa Claire Egan (Chelsea) of the episode. “I’m so proud of everything we shot in August that airs in [the] September 1st [episode]. It’s a big deal. We put a lot of work into it, a lot of late nights. We did some extra cool stuff.”

“I was at All My Children [as Annie] for 4 1/2 so I think I’ve just surpassed it,” she notes, adding with a smile, “It means for the last decade I’ve been working a lot. I’ve really clocked a lot of hours on TV since 2006!”
