Former The Young and the Restless and Criminal Minds star Shemar Moore may spend his life on TV dramas anymore, but that doesn’t mean it’s all sunshine and roses.
His Friend Turned Out to be a Con Artist
According to the LATimes, the actor appeared in court yesterday to testify against a man who stole more than $60,000 from his company Baby Girl LLC. The successful designer merchandise company is Moore’s pet project and his way to give back. A portion of all proceeds goes to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
In January, authorities arrested Moore’s longtime friend Keith Tisdell in connection with an embezzlement scam against Moore. Under a plea agreement, Tisdell confessed to grand larceny. To avoid jail time, he’s under court order to pay back the entire amount of $61,084 and stay out of trouble for the next three years.
Moore and Tisdell became friends in 2013 after Tisdell’s second appearance on Criminal Minds. It wasn’t long before the two were close and went into business together, something Moore regrets.
Shemar Speaks Out!
Tisdell’s theft came to light during a company audit. Moore isn’t taking the betrayal lightly. “I’ve done a lot for him because he had me, my friends fooled,” he told the San Fernando court judge. “I’m not here for money. I’m here because he betrayed a friendship. This is not OK. You don’t do this to people.”
Moore appeared as Malcolm Winters on Y&R from 1994-2005 and again in 2014 for a brief guest appearance. After his Y&R run, he landed the role of Derrek Morgan on Criminal Minds for 11 straight years.
Y&R airs weekdays on CBS. Share your thoughts, leave a comment in the section below. Additionally, for more The Young and the Restless spoilers updates, recaps, and news, go to Soap Hub’s Facebook fanpage and join the conversation about all your favorite soaps!
