What, exactly, does The Young and the Restless’ Chance Chancellor (Conner Floyd) expect to get out of his dogged search for the truth? Does he really want to see anyone go down for doing the world the service that was offing Ashland Locke (Robert Newman)?

Does he think that his wife will thank him for wearing down her brother till he confesses his crime? Does he really think that Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) won’t go all scorched earth on him, the GCPD, and the entire Wisconsin legal system before he’d see his son imprisoned?

Still, I suppose it’s nice to actually see a soap cop doing their job and doing it really rather well. And Chance’s intuition spot on! Also, it’s nice to see ole Kevin Fisher (Greg Rikaart) back in the thick of things – though he might want to lay off the shop talk with blabbermouth Chloe Mitchell Fisher (Elizabeth Hendrickson); she really shouldn’t know the exact details of the investigation.

Further Y&R Musings

* I can’t help but feel that the plethora of recent Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope)/Nicholas Newman (Joshua Morrow) scenes are but excuses for a chemistry test. I’m not exactly sure if the duo pass, but I do have to say that The Young and the Restless continually vex me with their obvious lack of vision where the character of Nicholas is concerned.

Who’s the woman for him? For a time I feared that they were going to push him back into Chelsea Lawson’s (Melissa Claire Egan) orbit, then it seemed pretty clear that TPTB had decided that he and Sharon Rosales (Sharon Case) were endgame. Now, I’m not so sure. Sally and Nicholas could work, but I can really only see it if Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) is brought into the fray, and it becomes a brother vs brother love triangle.

Speaking of love configurations, my soapy senses are telling me that we might soon be in for an oh-so messy Devon/Elena/Nate/Imani/Amanda pentagon…or maybe what it actually is is wishful on my part. Imani (Leigh-Ann Rose) and Amanda (Mishael Morgan) would actually have to be on screen to participate in such a storyline, and given the dearth of drama rung out of The Young and the Restless’ previous attempt at a Devon/Elena/Nate triangle, why would the show take advantage of what it seems they’re setting up?

* If Amanda wasn’t supposed to keep the peace between Devon (Bryton James) and Nate (Sean Dominic), why did she leave the moment that the tension between the two men escalated?

* Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) may have been wrong to castigate Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters) so ferociously and so publicly, but she didn’t say one thing that was a lie, and I most certainly found myself in agreement with her when she turned around and let Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) have it with both guns blazing.
