A Critic’s Review of The Young and the Restless: A Roundup Of Predictions For 2023

We here at Soap Hub are never shy when it comes to playing armchair headwriter – look no further than our near weekly ‘Wild Speculation’ articles for proof – and with 2023 fast approaching, a few of us couldn’t help but theorize what might be on the story horizon.

We were equally curious to see what you’d most like to happen to, or suspect is in store for your favorite — and perhaps least favorite — The Young and the Restless characters. To all those who participated, I sincerely thank-you.

The Young and the Restless — 2023 Predictions

Michelle Torrence (Young and the Restless Official Facebook Group):

Ashley will fall for Tucker, again. He’ll definitely get caught cheating, again. It’s Tucker. * I believe Devon and Abby will become an official couple. I think she’ll cheat on him with Chance. * Of course, Sally will have a baby. Who’s the daddy, though? Adam is due a daughter! * Unfortunately, Chelsea and Billy will end up together.

Darcy Gonzalez (Young and the Restless Official Facebook Group):

Jack opens his eyes and THROWS Diane out.

Jackie Keizer (Young and the Restless Official Facebook Group):

Phyllis and Jeremy will get together to get Diane.

Joyce Doty (Young and the Restless Official Facebook Group):

Sally finds out she’s pregnant and not sure who the daddy is and oh this would be awesome twins with different dad’s like on DAYS. * Phyllis and Jeremy end up hooking up and Jack gets beyond jealous. * Abby and Devon get together and raise their son. * Chance with Sharon and Nick gets up tight about it. * Billy and Chelsea hook up and Johnny gets closer to his mother and miss queen Victoria gets all out of sorts. * Danny finally [reunites] with Traci.

CeCi Cincerely (Young and the Restless Facebook Group):

Chelsea and Billy will couple up.

Susan Ladd (Young and the Restless Facebook Group):

Sharon & Chance will get closer.

Diane Brounstein (Soap Hub’s Editor-in-Chief):

As we know, Sally is pregnant but once again, Nick will be parenting his brother’s son; he seems to collect them. * I really want Tara Locke back and have her make everyone’s life Hell.

Sandra Leaming (Soap Hub’s Community Manager):

Tara returns and Kyle is served custody papers. * Let [Sally’s baby] be Nick’s. Adam needs to focus on Connor! * More Mariah and Tessa scenes! Put some spice on the couple!

Sherrie E. Smith (Soap Hub’s Senior Editor):

Needs Tara to come back. * Give Sharon a storyline. How about having her practice as an actual therapist? * Would love for Mariah and Tessa to have struggles with parenthood and raising a child as a same-sex couple. * Would love to see Chance actually on a case and embracing the Chancellor’s legacy. * Need the Winters/Hastings family redeemed and united for a common cause the way that Neil would have wanted and would make Olivia proud. * Victor needs to get his comeuppance. Maybe put Nikki in charge for a while? * The show is in desperate need of young storylines.

Michael Maloney (Soap Hub’s Sr. West Coast Editor):

Another vote for the return of Tara Locke (Elizabeth Leiner). It’s great to see familiar faces like Danny Romalotti (Michael Damian) back but in-and-out visits aren’t enough. Characters need to stick around to play out some long-term tales.

A Critic’s Predictions For The Young and the Restless

A rare medical condition — rare in that it only exists in the soapverse — will preclude the performing of a paternity test on Sally Spectra’s (Courtney Hope) unborn child and will result in Sally taking up residence at the Newman Ranch much to Victor Newman’s (Eric Braeden) chagrin. Despite herself, Sally will tap into her baser instincts and begin to ride roughshod over her offspring’s family. She is, after all, carrying an heir to the throne.

Sharon Rosales (Sharon Case) will finally put her degree to some use and return to the GCPD to counsel victims and officers alike. Now firmly entrenched in Chance Chancellor’s (Conner Floyd), expect sparks to fly between the two of a daily basis. Speaking of Chance, he’ll put his finely honed skills to use and involve himself in the Jeremy Stark (James Hyde) debacle. * The cracks begin to show in Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) and Summer Newman Abbott’s (Allison Lanier) union.

* Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson) one-ups Tucker McCall (Trevor St. John) much to his mutual chagrin and admiration. * Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) calls a moratorium on her romance with Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) and grows ever closer to former hubby Daniel Romalotti (Michael Graziadei). * Billy and Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan) become a bona fide item. * Nate Hastings (Sean Dominic) head is turned — in the romantic sense — by Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) — an H.R. nightmare if there ever was one. * On the outs from Nate, Elena Dawson (Brytni Sarpy) begins sniffing around Devon Hamilton (Bryton James) who’s on the verge of committing himself to Abby Plethora of Names (Melissa Ordway). Will his head be turned?
