Real Andrews’ return to Port Charles last January as Marcus Taggert, Sonny Corinthos’ (Maurice Benard) longtime nemesis, was a welcome surprise for General Hospital fans. But then the show’s writers pulled a fast one and abruptly killed the character off less than two months later.

Crying Foul
The move left fans up in arms and seriously confused. What was the point of Taggert’s big comeback only to write him off? Why introduce him as Trina’s (Sydney Mikayla) never-before-mentioned dad? Why build him up as Jordan’s (Briana Nicole Henry ) old undercover partner and key player in the plot to take down drug lord Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober)? None of it made any sense.

Unless, of course, it’s all a giant ruse and Taggert is still alive. It’s a theory that began taking shape almost immediately. And there are a few key reasons for it.

Saving the Day
Taggert went out a hero. He created a distraction and took a couple of bullets so Trina and her pal, Cameron (William Lipton), could escape the clutches of Renault’s henchmen, who’d kidnapped the two teens. Rushed to the hospital, he underwent successful surgery and was said to be on the mend. Heck, he even enjoyed happy visits from Trina and Jordan. However, mere moments later, it was announced he developed a blood clot that instantly killed him.

Final Visit
It seemed totally out of left field that Taggert was suddenly dead. Plus, his very last visitor was Sonny, the former adversary he had been planning to work with to bring down Renault. The two men’s final conversation was odd and cryptic, ending with Taggert grabbing Sonny’s hand and asking him to take care of Trina.

The encounter felt like the beginning of a covert operation; like Taggert’s death was a specifically executed plot orchestrated by Jordan with an assist from Sonny. That, in fact, Taggert would be moved somewhere and remain in protective custody, while secretly working with the PCPD.

The Burner Phone
Adding fuel to the “Taggert Is Alive Theory” was Jordan’s secret phone call to a mystery person on a burner phone a couple of weeks back. It was placed right before she decided to meet with Internal Affairs to reveal she’d discovered proof that her task force team tampered with evidence to send Renault to prison, years ago.

It makes sense that Jordan would have wanted to clear the move with Taggert, first, knowing it would ruin his reputation as a by-the-book cop. And, obviously, she was given the go-ahead. As a loving father, who had put himself in the line of danger to save his daughter, surely Taggert would have approved of anything Jordan had to do to save her son, TJ, who was now being held by Renault’s men.

Time will tell if the “Taggert Is Alive Theory” proves to be true. But, so far, all storyline signs are pointing in that direction. Share your thoughts in the comments below! General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listing for air times.
