GLAAD, the world’s largest LGBTQ media advocacy organization, announced the nominees for the 29th Annual GLAAD Media Awards today. Three out of four daytime soaps were nominated in the Daily Drama category.
The Bold and the Beautiful, Days Of Our Lives, and The Young and the Restless all got nods. The awards will be given out in Los Angeles at the Beverly Hilton on Thursday, April 12.
Surprisingly, General Hospital, which featured a same sex storyline with the characters of Kristina (Lexi Ainsworth) and Parker (Ashley Jones), was not nominated.
B&B wrote the story of Julius Avant (Obba Babatundé) encouraging his daughter Nicole (Reign Edwards) to try to keep custody of her daughter, Lizzie, because he didn’t approve of her being raised by his other child, Maya (Karla Mosley), a male to female transgender and her husband Rick (Jacob Young).
DAYS did the surprise return of Will Horton (Chandler Massey) and how that affected engaged couple Sonny Kiriakis (Freddie Smith) and Paul Narita (Christopher Sean).
Y&R told a tale of Mariah (Camryn Grimes) questioning her feelings for newcomer Tessa (Cait Fairbanks).
“At a time when anti-LGBTQ policies and harassment are on the rise, it is imperative that Hollywood and news media tell more LGBTQ stories that reflect the community’s rich diversity – and build understanding that brings all communities closer together,” said GLAAD President & CEO Sarah Kate Ellis.
