It doesn’t look good for “General Hospital” Julexis fans with the “moral” downfall of Julian Jerome.
A year ago, Julian’s (William deVry) life looked so promising. The alleged death of his son seemed to turn him into a changed man, but few things he’s done in 2016 lead us to believe a true change ever took place. From hiring Nina (Michelle Stafford) as a ruse and then sabotaging issue after issue of Crimson to agreeing to do his sister’s mob dirty work, we knew things were going downhill.
He then had a disastrous mob-filled wedding complete with a hostage situation and shots fired. By the time Ava (Maura West) asked him to “protect” her, it seemed Julian couldn’t wait for the chance to get his crime boss feet wet again.
It all spiraled from there. While he was helping Ava, he figured why not take over the “business” reigns again? Who would even know? He had Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) trusting him, so what could go wrong? Well, maybe everything.
He had to know Carlos (Jeffrey Vincent Parise) and Duke’s murder would come back to bite him one day and Julian showed he was willing to do just about anything to keep what he earned while he allegedly tried turning over a new leaf. At this point, one has to wonder if he ever really left the mob. Maybe he did, but it takes a mobster to know a mobster and Sonny (Maurice Benard) knew he’d be drawn back in. He said as much to Alexis today as she stood there in pure denial once again.

Now that Julian has stabbed Carlos using that dagger that brings back the most horrendous memories Alexis has, is there any way to save this character? Yes, “General Hospital” has mobsters. That’s a fact of the show. It even has beloved mobsters. However, characters like Sonny and (the former) Jason never pretended to be something they weren’t. Their wives and lovers always knew who they were and are.
Julian is different. He married a woman who he knew could never tolerate that life and he went right back to it within weeks of their wedding. And, then he lied–over and over and over again. He allowed Alexis to compromise everything about herself for his own gain. And then he took that dagger and did the unthinkable.
To us, it feels like this character has been written into a corner. He can’t stop making mistake after mistake and telling lie after lie. Alexis won’t be able to handle it and without Alexis, what is Julian except just another mob boss for Sonny to fight?
