Port Charles good guy Robert Palmer Watkins recently dished on how he got the his “General Hospital” job, what it was like stepping in as a recast–and his favorite on-screen pairing!

It Was Worth the Wait!
Watkins first met with GH’s famous casting director, Mark Teschner, about playing Morgan Corinthos. However, he wasn’t right for the role; he told The TV Water Cooler.

“My manager got me in to meet for a different role, and it went really well,” Watkins said. Although it took nearly a year for GH to make a follow-up call, Watkins was “super excited” to test for and land the role of Dillon Quartermaine!

On Being a Recast
Stepping into a role made a famous by a previous actor has its challenges, Watkins said. Fans loved Scott Clifton (Liam, B&B), who played Dillon as a teen.

“The character was also much younger at the time, so I think it made sense for a new actor to step into the role. It had been eight years,” the actor said.

Fans had an easier time accepting him because of how long Dillon was off the PC scene, according to Watkins. He took the solid foundation Clifton laid for the role of Dillon and made the character his own.

Watkins raved about working with two actresses he shares significant screen time with, seasoned vets Jane Elliott and Michelle Stafford. One plays his mom, and one plays his boss.

“She’s just very honest and real with people. It’s been really good to work with her. I’ve learned a lot from her,” Watkins said of Elliott.

Watkins admitted that Stafford always brings “so much to every line, every word.”

However, Dillon has a brand-new lady in his life, and expect him to fight for her.

Killon fans will love what Watkins had to say about that couple. When asked who his dream pairing would be, Watkins replied: “As of right now, I have to say Kiki. I really think they’ll be good together.”
