Perry Shen currently plays Brad Cooper on General Hospital, but the actor has been in a number of television shows over the years including Veronica Mars, Criminal Minds, NCIS, and Beverly Hills, 90210.
Along with his work on television, Shen has also made appearances in films such as First Daughter and Better Luck Tomorrow. From where he was born and raised to how he met his wife, here are five fast facts about the General Hospital actor.
In The Beginning
Shen was born on June 26 in New York City, but he was raised in Queens. His mother is from Hong Kong and his father is from Shanghai. Shen attended the University of Buffalo and then moved out to Los Angeles. After moving there, he worked as a dorm parent at a college prep school in Ojai, California.
Oh, The Horror
Shen has appeared in all three Hatchet films, which are horror movies — but in each one he’s actually played a different character! In the first film, he played Shawn, who worked for Swamp Tours. In the second, he played Justin, who was Shawn’s brother. In the third film, he played a paramedic named Andrew.
That Familiar Voice
Along with his work on television, Shen is also a voice actor. He can be heard in video games like The Walking Dead: Michonne, Marvel’s LEGO Avengers, and Mortal Kombat X. He also voiced a firefighter on the popular Disney Jr. show, Doc McStuffins.
Helping Kids
When he’s not busy working, Shen actually goes around the country and speaks with students at different colleges. In fact, he has spoken at over 100 Universities sharing his experience as an Asian American in the entertainment world.
Getting Personal
Shen married his wife, Kim — who is an elementary school teacher — on August 2, 2002. The pair met while they were both working as dorm parents at the boarding school in Ojai. The couple has two daughters, 14-year-old Avery Anne, and 11-year-old Kori. General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
