General Hospital. Nurse Amy
Now that Nurse Amy is back on General Hospital…and complaining that her boss caught her faking a sick day because, obviously, they’re the ones at fault, it’s the perfect time to take a look back at the original Nurse Amy…who also loved getting into everybody’s business.
Telling the Amy Vining (played by the late Shell Kepler) story first requires telling the Laura Webber now Collins (Genie Francis) story. Well, actually it requires telling the Lesley Webber (Denise Alexander) story.
So you know how Laura has two new half-brothers, Martin Grey (Michael E. Knight) and Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober)? Their mutual biological dad was Lesley’s college professor. Lesley had a baby, Laura, but was told the newborn died. Instead, Lesley’s father handed the baby over to the Vining family, who thought she was theirs.
When Laura was a teen, Lesley tracked her daughter down and, after a stint in a cult, brought Laura home to live with her. Laura’s adopted sister, Amy, tagged along. And the parents who’d raised them both for years were never heard from again. Nice.
Once an aspiring figure skater, Amy soon took up residence behind the General Hospital nurses’ station. And never really left it. Due to having no life of her own, Amy loved to spread gossip about others.
She gossiped about her sister’s marriage to upstanding young lawyer Scotty Baldwin (Kin Shriner). She gossiped about Bobbie Spencer’s (Jaclyn Zeman) affair with Noah Drake (Rick Springfield). She was furious when Laura faked her death without telling Amy but then got over it.
Her major romance was with a boxer named Johnny, but he left town. She had a crush on Noah, but he, well, see ‘affair with Bobbie’ above. She also had a small crush on Black Parrish (John Stamos), but he is apparently still in prison for causing a girl’s accidental death…while all the other Port Charles criminals walk the streets. Will this Amy follow in that Amy’s footsteps? We’ll be watching.
