Could Mom’s Bonnie Get a New ‘Christy’ – 5 Actresses Who Could Do It

It’s no secret that Anna Faris won’t be returning to Mom this season, and even though the show has been mum about how the character of Christy will be written out, it’s safe to say that they won’t be bringing in another actress to play the part.

However, that doesn’t mean that the writers aren’t considering bringing in a new actress to push Bonnie’s (Allison Janney) buttons, sort of the way Kirstie Alley’s Rebecca came to Cheers as a replacement for Shelly Long’s Diane.

Here are five actresses we can see becoming a strong part of the Mom canvas.

1) Pauley Perrette: A CBS staple, Perrette played forensic scientist Abby Sciuto on NCIS from 2003 until 2018, and returned to the network this past year in the comedy, Broke. In that show, Perrette played Jackie, a sharp-witted, loving but struggling single mom with a 9-year-old son. The show was sadly canceled after only a short tryout. She’s since said that she’s retiring from TV, but wouldn’t facing off against Oscar-winner Janney each week be reason enough to change her mind?

2) Kim Matula: The former Hope Logan on CBS’s daytime soap The Bold and the Beautiful, Matula showed her comedy chops on the short-lived, yet critical darling, Fox comedy series LA to Vegas in 2018. We could see her playing Bonnie’s long-lost niece and moving in with her “favorite” aunt.

3) Alison Brie: Two Al(l)isons are better than one, right? Brie recently learned that her hit Netflix series, Glow, would not be coming back for its final season, so the popular actress suddenly has some time on her hands. She’s shown she can play a recovering addict in a comic setting during her years on NBC’s Community, and her experience on Glow shows she’s not afraid to mix it up with those tougher than her. Maybe Brie steps in as a new tenant who needs Bonnie’s help.

4) Keke Palmer: Mom has a lot going for it, but one thing it has been short on is diversity, outside of a great arc with another Community alum—Yvette Nicole Brown. Palmer has shown a flair for comedy and drama in her career, stealing scenes in Scream Queens and Hustlers. Perhaps Palmer can get a role as the daughter of a former friend who needs a sponsor as tough as Bonnie.

5) Christina Applegate: The always in-demand actress will soon wrap up the final season of Netflix’s Dead to Me, and it would be great to see her back on network TV again. Applegate can do comedy with the best of them and she would make a welcome addition to Mom’s support group—not afraid to throw zingers at Bonnie and the gals.
